Default What do you drink socially?

Hey All

Since I decided to give up aspartene I now find myself in a bit of a pickle. I don't really drink that often and I don't touch sugar, BUT if I can't have d coke when I go out what can I drink? I'm so sick of ordering water in restaurants? Orange and apple juice is too high carb but I'd like some variety.

What non alcoholic drinks do you drink socially?

Hi Scarlet:

I don't think I can help you out, I usually just drink Perrier water with some lemon or lime. Trying to get in 3 liters of water/day means that drinks are the last thing on my mind. But I wanted to congratulate you on giving up artificial sweetener.

Although not totally SP-friendly, what about a virgin ceasar, made with clamato juice? I just remembered, I think that's a Canadian drink. Much better than yucky tomato juice. Vegetable juices would be ok, but you'd have to include them in your carb count.

I hope someone can give you some ideas.

I *always* have water at restaurants. I love my water. Occasionally I order iced tea or hot tea. Guess I wasn't much of a help, huh?

V8 or tomato juice or clamato. Or virgin mary, virgin caesar. Really I find it just as difficult at home, since I would rather eat raw fruit than fruit juice.

What about sparkling water with a tiny bit of unsweetened fruit juice? I used to love cranberry and orange juices mixed together with sparkling water. It drastically cuts down the carb count and you get something other than water.

See here is my problem, I have sugar & aspartene free, fairly low carb stuff at home to drink, but I can't mix water with juice at restaurants. Guess I'll just be drinkin the lowest carb juice possible coz it seems like only alternative to water.

BTW the drinks link is helpful for at home use .Thanks.

I really enjoy getting different types of herbal teas and drinking them iced. I even have my girls drinking blueberry tea (Celestial Seasons)! Actually, collecting and of course drinking different kinds has kinda become my passion.

Can you have iced tea on this plan?
Are you allowed to use splenda to sweeten them?

u can have tea, just make sure it's decaf. splenda is fine, just remember to count one packet as 1 carb in your total carb count for the day.

I know you can for Atkins, I am wondering about iced tea on the Schwarzbein principle. I am pretty sure you don't count carbs on that one but I have only just started the book

Keep a supply of splenda in your purse at all times. Almost every restaurant I've been to offers decaf tea which you can ask to be served chilled. Even bars usually can make decaf coffee which you can have them serve over ice with cream.

I am really confused by this. SPII says stevia is ok and a little honey but no splenda. Also unsweetened fruit juice is still a carb. Therefore you would have factor that in to your carb load for that meal.

Am I missing something?

msk - It's true that Dr. Diana says "no" to Splenda; she considers it a toxin. (I wish she would qualify this claim w/ some science.) My personal opinion, though, is that a little bit every once in a while isn't a big deal. I think that relying on it daily might not be the healthiest thing, but a diet drink or one dessert serving a couple times a week, I personally wouldn't worry about.

That's a tricky one. I always order water, no matter what. Other than that you're usually looking at caffeine, sugar, or alcohol. You could try ordering herbal tea.

This brings up a good issue though. Why does water seem to bore you? Why do you need something "more"? Does your social interaction pressure you to drink something other than water? Personally, nothing other that water makes me feel like I've hydrated myself.

Other than water, the only thing I drink is herbal tea. Try some rooibos tea. It's very mild and tastes wonderful.

When ordering organic herbs/teas, I always recommend www.mountainroseherbs.com. They have the best stuff for the best prices. That's where I get my rooibos.
