Question Need a good source for info about kidney damage on Atkins

I have a friend who insists I'm going to damage my kidneys. I know I've read that is not true and part of the reason is that I drink plenty of water. What's the rest of the story?

TIA!

The only thing I've ever heard as fact is that if you START out with kidney damage, you're going to worsen the condition by low carbing. I don't believe there has ever been any documentation of kidney damage after the fact. If I were you, I'd ask this friend to show me his/her resources and research material. I don't think s/he'll be able to produce anything.

there are no evidence that Atkins does any harm to kidneys... Some people who so no tbelieve in this WOE assume that you eat tons of protein and then assume that it will harm your kineys.. people are on this WOE for over 25 years... somone would have found the evidence if this was true...

Here's my favorite rebuttal for this objection. It's written by a man with serious kidney disease...who improved his condition by low carbing.

Hi Barbara,

How about turning it around and asking him for proof that you'll damage your kidneys? As we know, there is no proof.
Make sure he understands that hearing someone at work say "it was bad for the kidneys" is not proof. There's a lot of "opinion" out there that LC is bad for all sorts of things, but there have never been scientific studies proving LC harms us in any way. In fact there's a lot of proof that LC improves health all around.

Cheers.

Rosebud
