Default Poll: How Much Sodium do You Consume?

I am a little bit concerned with how much sodium I am consuming... do you think 1200-1600 mgs per day is excessive on this diet for someone who is on a medication which has a side-effect of water-retention and is also on a vegetarian diet?

Also, my fitday is at

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I can do to reduce it safely, I would be very, very appreciative.

Thanks!

1200-1600 is not excessive for the average person. But, I can't say for sure since you are on medicines. The vegetarian diet shouldn't make any difference in your Sodium needs. The RDA is 2400mg. I shoot for 1500-2500mg...and usually end up around 1800mg. My Blood Pressure [the top number] dropped 20+ points after going LC and another 10 points when I started watching my Sodium intake.

I just try to stay below 2400 which is recommended by the RDA.

I do not track my sodium intake. Between pickles, cheese, pepperoni and ranch dressing, it is probably in the moderate to high range. But I have no doubt that it is lower than what I was eating before Atkins! Heck, I was consuming large amounts of sodium before just based on soft drinks alone...
