Question Can anyone tell me about Maltitol?

I was just wondering if anyone could explain why or why not, (on a low carb diet) you can eat products with Maltitol (sugar free candy) in them? I have tried the other stuff and have had problems because I am lactose intolerant. The sugar free products that have Maltitol in them do not seem to give me any greif at all. I just starting eating them last week, so I am not sure if they are prolonging weight loss at all yet? If anyone has any opinions or advise on products or what does and does not work for them that would be very helpful. Thanks

Everyone varies with the sugar alcohols. They bother some and don't bother others. In some they cause bathroom problems and in others they cause cravings and others weight loss stalls. The only advice I have is see what kind of reaction you have to them. Good luck!

The reason you are allowed to have sugar alcohols while low-carbing is that they don't spike your insulin levels like sugar does. Even this though varies from person to person as some people react to them by having their blood sugar level rise.

You'll find some more information on sugar alcohols if you go to Low Carb Tips, which you'll find on the orange bar at the top of the screen.
