Hiya, ok after another bit of advice, during Induction am I right in thinking I can only eat what is stipulated in my "acceptable foods" list? Am I not allowed to widen my scope to most things provided I keep within 20grams of carbs until week three?

Ta!

Hi from another UK member.

In the first 2 weeks of Atkins you should keep as close as possible to the foods in the lists. This will give you good nutrition. What sort of other foods are you thinking of adding? After 2 years of low carbing most of my foods come from the acceptable list. Check out my jounal for my daily menus.

Every success. Where about in SE UK are you?

That is correct You do not want to eat anything that is not on that list even if you stay in your 20gram range because you want most of them to come from veggies. So in other words you cant eat a piece of a candy bar just because you stay within the 20grams.

Nothing terribly exciting! I just wondered if I could have the sugar free jelly sachets as they have a reasonably low carb count, and I have heard that pepperamis are quite low too. I can hold out a few weeks if not! I'm in Hampshire. Ooh also, this aspartame thing means no diet drinks or low sugar squash, do you know if I can have peppermint or cammomile tea? I can't find any ingredient content on the boxes. ta!

Yes, you can have peppermint and camomile tea. Most herbal teas are fine.

If you want to make up some sugar free jelly and have it with cream then I would allow one portion a day.

On the aspartame front, there is still little alternative in low calorie drinks or sugar free squashes. I suggest you have just a little of these, from week 3. Aspartamene can cause you to stall as your body may see it as sugar. I have a small amount of it each day as sugar free squash. You can now buy splenda in the supermarket which you can use to sweeten things you make.

Would not go for pepperamis until after week 2. These have a lot of preservatives in and so are not the best things to eat. Good in an emergency though.

Hope that helps.

A question, please? What do you mean by a "squash"? I know squash as a vegetable grown on a vine, but it sounds like you are describing a drink.

As Shaw said "The United Kingdom and the United States are two great countries
separated by a language barrier."

Thanks I knew it had to be something like that but just wasn't sure.

Does it come as a powder or does it start out as a concentrate like some orange juices? What kind of flavors are available?

Sounds very tasty. I used to buy Ocean Spray CranCurrant juice (cranberry curant mixture) but seems I was the only one since the grocer quit stocking it. Now, I don't drink juice so it's not a concern.

Thanks for the info.
