Default The best Atkins-friendly restaurant!

We went to a Brazilian restaurant yesterday called Sal Grosso
This restaurant leads me to believe Dr. Atkins was Brazilion lol
The salad bar had Artichoke salad, asparagus, giant bowls of assorted olives,
fresh mozzarella, chunks of cheddar, salami slices, fresh broccoli, cauliflower and assorted baby lettuces. There was not one non-atkins friendly item and nothing was in sauces or syrups.
The highlight is they come around non stop to your table with giant slabs of meat on giant skewers that they carve at the table right on to your plate. They just keep coming until you beg for mercy. They have Rump Roast, filet Mignon wrapped in bacon, Brazilian Sausages, Chicken breast chunks wrapped in bacon, Lamb Roast, Lamb Chops, Roast Beef, Chicken Wings, Ribs, Pork Tenderloin, and Pork chunks dipped in Parmesan and roasted. There's no sauces on anything, just seasonings. I kept saying dear god this is atkins heaven. They even had wads of melted provolone cheese they brought around-no crusts or toppings! It was so freaking good. The ONLY thing they offered that wasn't Atkins friendly was fried bananas dipped in sugar and I wasn't even tempted by that. There was no bread or rolls on the table, they did have a giant cracker you could break pieces off of but nobody wanted to fill up on starches/carbs with all that meat coming
(off to the side of the salad bar they had some mashed potatoes and rice but nobody went near it because it was filler)
We discussed these types of restaurants in a thread a few weeks ago, so if your looking for a special place to celebrate I assume they are all similiar
It was extremely expensive ($40 a person) but I would say we definately ate our moneys worth.
For a special occasion it is ideal-it is an atkiners dream

That sounds like one fantastico restaurant! I did an internet search and I wonder if it is in Atlanta? Too bad, I missed it by one month!

The owners would probably appreciate your comments, I'm sure.
Thanks for sharing!

You know they have the same restaurant here in the Chicagoland Area..
Although it is Called Sal e Carvio...

They call the type of restaurant a Churrascaria.

So if you want to look up if you have a similar place near you... search that word... along w/ possibly Brazillian..

this is the link to the one near me... http://www.salecarvao.com/dining.html

Good luck..
I would recommend this type of eating to anyone LC'ing

yes it is the Atlanta area, (actually Marietta but I think they use an Atlanta address), they've only been open less than a year. I sure hope they stick around.
Their website isnt up yet

The link you provided showed EXACTLY what we had, it was awesome, can't wait for my son's birthday in October he said that he wants to go back there. (he's a 6'3" football player and was in hog heaven)
Also found out they have the same meats for lunch and its only $14.95 until 3:00. Sounds like a great early Sunday dinner

Fogo de Chao is the coolest place. My team at work goes about twice a month.

I know exactly what you're talking about!
My boyfriend's Brazilian, and I spent a month last Christmas with him and his family in Sao Paulo. I had not started Atkins yet, I was still a bread-and-sugar girl, so I wasn't too excited when he kept trying to take me to a Churrasqueria. I was totally amazed...meat EVERYWHERE...dozens of men in white jackets carring around huge skewers of beef, pork, chicken, everything!
The best part is everything in Brazil is pretty much dirt cheap compared to the good ol' USA, so ten of us ate for under $50!
I'm going back in December and I can't wait. It's Churrasqueria every night.

LOL Annie-Pie, that would be fantastic. Can you imagine the looks on the waiters' faces to see a big group of LC'ers coming in? We'd put 'em out of business!

Add Chabuca's to the Houston list. It's actually south of Houston, about 3 miles from NASA. I haven't been there since I started this WOE. Sounds like a good idea for SO's upcoming b-day!

I ate at Fogo De Chao last month in Dallas. It was fabulous. Expensive but fabulous. I was on vacation so I splurged.

OMG the moment I realized that churrascarrias were "permitted" for me again, I flipped out. I'll just pass on those tapioca/cheese puffs and I'm golden. I know where we're going for special occasions! There's even a less expensive one than Fogo de Chao and Chima in Northeast Philly.

We have a similar style restaurant here in Ontario, it's called The Copacabana in Niagra Falls. It's amazing and I just realized it's perfect for this WoL Thanks for the reminder!
