Default Flax question

Does anyone experience stomach pain after eating flax? I have been eating it in yogurt (a couple of tablespoons per cup) and about 15 mins after eating it I experience terrible stomach pains. Just wondering if anyone else had had this problem with flax....

Juniper,

Funny you say that. I took the flax sead oil for several weeks after my morning breakfast and every time I had horrible stomach pains. I noticed it EVERY time. I had to stop taking it. I went and bought pure flax seeds ground them up mixed my daily 2 table spoons in water and slug it... kinda tastes like ground up walnuts to me.
I have not had any tummy trouble. It had to be the oil that was doing it in my tummy or ?? But I have had no problems since.

Perhaps you like me just need to change the way your getting your flax? My friend takes hers in some type of gel pill...

Interesting NoSun, it wasn't fun! I broke out in a cold sweat and doubled over. I was ready to go to the hospital, then I took Malox and felt better. I know it is the flax, and I'm not happy about it because I need the roughage. Maybe smaller amounts....I'll have to try.
Thanks!

I eat flax all the time, no pain though. Maybe try psyillium husks if you need the fiber.

I've also never had stomach pains with eating ground flax seeds. As far as the heating goes, you will probably lose some of the omega 3 with heating, but gentle heating (such as pouring over hot water or baking) won't destroy all of the omega 3. It's high heat that causes a problem (such as using the oil for frying).

I have no problem with it, however my niece has been allergic to it all her life, she had a terrible reaction to it through a small amount being in a cereal, ( sunny boy), it was very serious.
Perhaps you have a senseitivity to it?

Kathy
