Question Weight swings...confused!

OK...Monday was my "official" Weigh Day...scales said 230 (total lost 19lbs). Happy was my face!

Today...scales said 235! Face =

Now, I know I shouldn't weigh every day, but I'm so happy to have found something that actually works that I simply cannot stop myself!

My question is this...could the 5 lb change be due to the fact that I didn't drink my water Monday? (was very busy at work...came home, ate, showered, crashed)

Also, I've always been told that your "true" weight is right after you get up and "do what you gotta do" ...

Do any of you agree with this?

Anyway, I'm totally committed to this woe because it seems to be working, but these weight swings unsettle me every time!

By the way...LOVE this site! Everyone is so nice and helpful!

Water retention will do that, especially for us females. Ask yourself what time of the month it is and could that be it. Even without TOM your weight can vary. Yeah, don't weigh everyday. It's asking for trouble. There is no way you gained actual fat equal to 5 pounds in one day. To gain just one you have to have 3500 EXCESS calories. So don't worry about it. Congratulations on your weight loss!

I'm up 6 pounds this week, I took a long hard look at what I'm doing and realised that along with TOM I was letting a few of the old low-cal ways creep back in so now it's up the water intake and stop skipping meals and see if that gets me back on track

I know what you mean about being so excited you just want to weigh yourself every hour...LOL

But I have also found this to be depressing at times because your weight can fluctuate from hour to hour.

It could be you've eaten, drank a lot of water, and also you just haven't had a bowel movement...along with all the other issues that as a male I don't have to deal with.

But good luck, keep up the good work.

Hang in there and keep drinking your water. If you were unable to drink a sufficient amount of water on Monday, the five pound increase you see is more than likely just water retention. Get re-hydrated, and you will probably see the scale drop again.

Note also that the weight of an average person can change by about 7 lbs in a day (as you eat, drink, etc).. It helps to weigh yourself at the same time each day.. But the best thing really is to only do it once a week in my opinion..

Personally I do weigh myself alot too, but only the Monday sessions count..

You might find this helpful in understanding those fluctuations.

I have been holding on to 3 lbs that suddenly came last week and stayed with me until today when I lost those 3 lbs (keeping fingers crossed they stick). And yes, you can fluctuate as much as 5 even 6 lbs from day to day...

This drives my husband crazy, but not only do I weigh myself every day .. but just about every time I go into the bathroom.

For me it's a way to keep me on track.

Weight can fluctuate up to several lbs. each day .. based on water & food intake .. and I've also noticed that I weigh more right after I exercise and when I'm just out of the shower!

If you're eating right .. and not cheating .. don't worry about it too much. Your once a week weigh ins are what count .. and just be sure it's at the same time each week .. I prefer first thing in the morning after I've gone to the bathroom .. want to get rid of every extra ounce, lol.

I do it about 3 times a week. I know I should not but I do it any ways. I will swing 5-7 lbs thru out the day.

Natrushka, thanks so much for that link. It really put my mind at ease about my recent inexplicable gain. Now I'm crossing my fingers that it's only because I've been eating too much salty fish sauce in the last few days. (OT - is Thai beef salad the perfect food? I say YES)

Thanks for the input, everyone!

I knew it wasn't TOM...no plumbing ...thought it might be caused by no water on Monday...drank plenty yesterday and today (4 - 24oz bottles so far today...eyeballs ~f~l~o~a~t~i~n~g~)...

Will check out the link from Natrushka (thanks)...

Just got home from work...things to do (food, laundry, blahblahblah)...

Have a wonderful evening, everyone!
