Thumbs up Question: Gained pounds but lost inches

I know that when you exercise you may experience a gain in weight due to muscle buildup.

But how do you explain the fact that I am consistently up by 2 lbs...but lost 1/2 inch on tummy and 1/2 inch on waist....and I have been exercising less than in prior months?

I don't think its water....its been consistent (the gain) for last 2 weeks and its not TOM time.

Any ideas because this baffles me especially since I have had my hurdles over the last few months.

Congrats on losing those inches.

My understanding is that muscle takes up less space then fat. So lets say you replace fat with 2 pounds of muscle you will look smaller.

But how? I've been exercising a lot less than back in March/April? Am I sleep jogging? (lol)...seriously.

Sometimes exercising less allows your body to rebuild. Remember you build muscles when you are resting not when actually working out. More rest is a good thing.

Serious bodybuilders always take ar est day. Working out tears down your muscles, then when they repair themselves they get bigger. (Ok so that's not the scientific explenation, but works :P ) Getting the rest and having a good deal of protien is probably allowing them to fix themselves. When you go back to working out, alternate workout days and make sure to get adiquet rest periods.
