It's hard to go out with friends and drink water or shots.

I would guess that Leffe Blond is better than Leffe Brun, but I don't know for sure. In general, the dark beers tend to be more carby, but with dense beers like the Belgian brews the carb count might be close indeed.
Dang that stuff is great. I was in Brussels for a little while this winter, and, um, made a serious study of the beers there. That was pre-LC of course.
Don't know what I'm going to do when I go back there next. Maybe that'll be a planned "vacation" from the diet.
I wouldn't drink hard cider at all; I think it is carbier than beer. But I'm only comparing from my limited experience. (Even living in England I have never developed a taste for the stuff--it all seems too sweet to me.)
You have to watch it with the shots anyway because most liqueurs have significant carbs. The only alcohols which have NO carbs are straight spirits, and as you said, they can be pretty hard to take. (Although I've been known to order a double bourbon on the rocks and just nurse it, along with plenty of water, while my companions drank themselves silly on beer.)
There is always the white wine spritzer option for about 1.5 carbs per drink, but that can get boring and it certainly doesn't have much of a kick. Or you could order "tinto de verano," which is kind of a faux sangria--a red wine spritzer but with diet Sprite/diet 7-up instead of seltzer. (Not sure if too many bartenders in Boston would know this though. You might have to ask for a glass of red wine and a glass of diet Sprite, then drink half the Sprite and pour the wine in.)
