Angry Salads are KILLING ME

Okay, everytime I eat a salad for lunch (red leaf lettuce and spinach) my stomache hurts. Any idea what is going on? I LOVE salads darnit! I am sorry I keep asking silly questions, but my body is just acting very strange since cutting carbs down.

I'm afraid it's the salad. Just kidding - if this were some type of food poisoning or something it would take a good 24 hours to manifest itself. Perhaps it was something you ate a few days ago that is upsetting your stomach.

no it happens all the time. I just dont get it. Could it be the spinach? ACK! Maybe I should eat salads without spinach and see what that does?

Perhaps look into your dressing. I for example, am sensitive to raw eggs. It came on suddenly a few years ago-- I never had a problem before. Some salad dressings contain raw egg yolks. If I eat those I get bad stomach cramps (it almost fells like the cramps you get when laughing). I doubt it's the veggies unless maybe you are allergic to a certain pesticide or something (I also broke out in hives one day from the pesticide from an orange, Had to go to the emergency room and get a shot in the butt- OWW!)? Try buying your veggies from a different store or get the organic versions and see if that helps. If you eliminate or replace things one by one from your salads each day you hopefully should find it.

Are you using vinegar? Maybe you are sensitive to that. Anything else in the salad we should know about? Mushrooms can also cause candida reactions (yeast in the digestive system).

Hope you figure it out... or just stop eating that kind of salad.

Post process of elimination

as suggested, I would take something out of the regular salad you eat and see what happens. If that doesnt solve the problem, switch with something else. It could be a combination of things in the salad. Maybe you should post the exact ingredients (name brand & amounts) for us to see.

Good luck!

Just a thought - perhaps if you started a definite plan (like Atkins), this wouldn't seem as difficult. It can be very helpful having specific guidelines to follow, then you know you're doing it right.

Good luck!

Uggghhh! Caesar is a killer! It's almost always made with a lot of raw egg. That's one dressing I can NEVER eat. I'm betting on the caesar being the culprit.

I have the books. I have had them for two years but never read them. Atkins and Protein Power. LOL! Lord, I am awful. See, I am a work aholic. Even when I am at home I am usually working. I should start making time for my reading at night, in my rocking chair, by the window BY MY LONESOME~! Everyone on here seems to know each other pretty well. I feel so left out
