Question Have you done the FAT FAST for stalls?

I have been doing Induction for nearly three weeks and lost 1lb. Chapter 20 in Atkins book covers Metabolic Resistance. I can rule out any of the mentioned medical conditions or medications that are linked with stalls.

Has anyone done the FAT FAST, a 1,000 calorie diet with 75 - 90% fat for with any success?

Thank you!

Instead of considering such a strong measure why don't you keep track of the foods that you are eating and post a typical day's meals. Maybe we can point out something in your diet that might be holding you back.

Also, are you taking any supplements? What about exercise (remember it is non-negotiable)?

Be honest with what you are eating and drinking. We can only help if we know everything you are eating and drinking!

Make sure you take your measurements too. Sometimes you can lose inches and not necessarily weight.

I thought of doing that too, but before I did I tried keeping track of everything I ate at http://www.nat.uiuc.edu/ (it's free) and found out where I was going wrong. If you're not familiar w/it, it's basically like having your own free nutricounter. You can do myNAT, where you enter all the foods you eat each day, and it gives you a total nutritional breakdown, and keeps a running total for you, even calculating hidden carbs. For example, I had no idea there were some in LETTUCE. Crazy. You can even track your entire day's activity and caloric expenditure (even on some slightly strange activities). You might try it. I found those hidden carbs were what was hurting me. On a day where I thought (and I'm pretty a/r about keeping track and calculating) I was doing, say, 16.7 carbs, the myNAT analysis said I was actually at 27.4, which, if I did that on a daily basis, would explain some things. Anyway, I hope it helps you, because I know how frustrating that is.

Burkesincs, looks like your NAT counter doesn't display the fiber separately, so you probably weren't really eating 27.4g of net carbs (remember, we don't count the fiber carbs). I wouldn't recommend using any tool that doesn't display fiber separately so that you can subtract it out!

I am currently in day 2 of a modified Fat Fast- and find that I am really not hungry on it. I had been plateaued for almost 3 months - am definately metabolically resistant. I use fitday.com to track my eating and was attempting to work through OWL - was still in mild ketosis by the sticks, at max of 28 carb grams but not losing weight but inches were coming off. I had added in the COQ10, the L-Carnitine and even CLA - don't get me wrong I love the inches I've lost since January 5th but needed to move the scale as well. (bust from 46-42, waist from 42--37, hip from 48--44) Well yesterday day one of modified fat fast - breakfast - cream cheese with 8 walnut halves, snack 1 deviled egg with ranch dressing, lunch cream cheese, snack- macademia nuts, dinner - 4 oz burger - no bun and green salad with caesar dressing - I wasn't hungry and didn't want my evening snack. Today I had cream cheese and walnuts some 3+ hours ago and still am okay - but better get some more water in. I am planning on doing Mod. FF through Friday then heading into low carb OWL again to see how it goes.
You haven't been on too long, so I would recommend double checking your intake again through fitday --- then maybe check into the Fat Fast. I got determined after I read another woman's post over on the Atkinsfriends.com board - Snowrose who is also metabolically resistant... that inspired me. I also have thyroid nodules so feel that I could be hypothyroid.
Best of luck to you.
Jan
PS I had lost 8 # on induction.

Default I should post my daily intake

Augh! It just seems like I am on a diet then, rather then eating low carb for life when you have to keep a food diary. I can see that my strick adherence to the Induction for almost three weeks must me flawed somehow. There must be a learning curve (hidden carb), I really want to make this work so I will post a normal days meals this evening and if anyone sees what could be stalling me - Wonderful.

I workout 3-4 times a week for 30 -45 mins and take a regular old women multi-vit.

I am truely grateful for every helpful comment and suggestion
Thank you each very much!

Like you said, keeping a food diary does make it seem like a "diet" but all we are after here is, what foods or drinks are possibly keeping you from losing weight. Once we figure that out, if that is indeed the problem, then I don't see a need to continue to keep a food diary. It is helpful for some people, but as you said, it makes this feel more like a diet than a Way of Life.

okay, today was day 2 of modified Fat Fast- I had 2 hb eggs with ranch for lunch - then had dinner 3 oz of chicken with spices, and a green salad. I have been doing some wall prep to redo a bedroom - primered the entire thing today so was busy - not tired nor hungry! Now here it is almost 11:00 PM and still not hungry. I had 20 grams of carbs today - almost 80% fats according to Fitday.
plan on sticking with this for TR and Friday.
would be best if I could stay off the dang scale every day , I know!

I lost very little weight during the 2 week Induction also and tried the fat fast for four days. I wasnt hungry at all and lost 4 lbs. After that I did the modified fat fast and then went back to Induction. Since that 4 lb loss I have only lost 1 more pound and that has taken 2 weeks. If I dont do better next week, I may do the fat fast again.

Wow, I can feel the fustration. So many threads have success stories with men and women loosing weight with such ease. Then there are some people that have to conduct a sciencific study and perform experiments before the stall answer is clear?

It will be very rewarding to have things figured out and weight falling off.

monster66 - I think you have given great thought to what will work for you and how to produce results with safe and sain methods.

Good going!
