Default forbidden fruit

Could anyone explain why fruits are strictly forbidden during induction ?
What would be wrong with eating berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.) or even half of a small apple or orange as long as I don't exceed 10g in one sitting and 20g in a day?

The reason is simple. Good old Dr. Atkins wants you to get enough veggies! Your carb allowance most importantly should be devoted to veggies first and foremost. Important for vitamins, fiber, etc. and you will not run the risk of fructose keeping you out of ketosis.

If you don't want to give up fruit for two weeks, perhaps consider following a different plan. I think Protein Power allows fruit in the first phase.

Good luck!

10 grams of rapidly-absorbed fructose would not only cause an insulin reaction, but keep you on the sugar craving bandwagon. A main aspect of induction is getting used to not tasting sweet things. That's why diet sodas and other things with artificial sweeters are discouraged, also.

Keep pluggin' away! It's only two weeks.

Thanks for a quick reply, skamito. I guess if I had read the Atkins book I would have known that. Thankfully, I haven't tasted the forbidden fruit yet(and won't as long as I'm in induction). And I love green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, and especially asparagus. And so far, this WOE is working. I've lost 5 lbs. in 5 days. Yay!
