Default I know I'm in ketosis when......

I only need 5 or 6 hours sleep - - wake up refreshed and full of energy.

Yeah..finally in ketosis after gettin knocked out over this awful and emotional weekend (I lost my beloved dog Pepper )

So when do you know you are in ketosis (and don't tell me that the stix turn pink or purple!)

Lack of cravings or hunger, bad breath and I get hot...My body feels like it`s in a steamer a few times a month and it doesn`t always coincide with My TOM.

For me it's the metallic tang at the very back of my mouth and the energy boost.

I am so sorry about Pepper We had to put our dog Ginger to sleep a few months ago ,she had cancer in her leg.

I am wondering if this means ketosis, I went to bed at midnight , woke up at 5 am sweating to death ,took off all my clothes because I was overheating ,went downstairs to pee ,walked back up ,laid down and my heart was pounding out of my chest . Needless to say , I never could fall back asleep. No,weight or inch loss this morning.

Yep....when I feel "hot" when everyone around me is OK...that usually means Ketosis as well. I felt like that this morning...boy...had to crank up the A/C which helped.

I'm for sure in ketosis when:

--> my mouth is dry and I can't get enough water

--> when I'm practically knocked off the potty by the acetone fumes when I pee - I've quit burning candles in the bathroom!

First let me give my deepest condolences on the loss of your dog. I don't even want to imagine how I will feel when my dog or any of my cats die. They are like family.

Secondly, can you still lose weight and not every hit ketosis? I don't have any of these symptoms - at least not that are noticable. I have been meaning to get those strips but have never got around to it. I have been on Atkins since the beginning of June and have lost 25 lbs. Would that have been possible without being in ketosis?

Best of wishes to all,
Tammy

Yes, you can lose weight and not be in ketosis ..... I did. But ketosis helps you lose "fat" faster and that is why many of us experience inches being lost at a faster rate than actual scale pounds. To lose weight without being in ketosis you must lower fat, calories, etc... So for me, being in ketosis is easier.

I've lost a total of 16.5 inches as well as the 25 lbs. I guess I'll have to go get me some of those strips to know for sure. Do you have to be completely sugar free to get into ketosis. I generally have like 5 grams a day. It's in my salad a caesar salad I eat every day at burger king.

Best of wishes to all,
Tammy

I'm so sorry to hear about you losing Pepper! I know how hard that can be! {{{Yvonne}}}

Ketosis - I know when I have that nasty taste in my mouth. It is a sure sign!

I wouldn't even waste your money on those strips.
Alot of low carb diets don't require ketosis. Plus the strips are addicting and expensive. TRUST ME! Been there done that. I am not buying them any more. Just the fact that you are loosing so well is proof enough. I would keep doing what you are doing. It is working. Don't mess with a good thing!

Like Tagcaver-its the acetone fumes in the bathroom.
I don't get too warm or notice a nasty taste in my mouth, and so far haven't knocked anyone out with my breath. My strips do turn pink or purple most of the time, even when I show no weightloss on the scale for weeks. I feel good and full of energy too. When I drop out of ketosis I notice myself feeling tired. I pop a few supplements and feel better and go back into ketosis. I am horrible about keeping the supplements up and my body usually tells me when i am low-they do make a difference.

I'm with you Neener - I'm terrible about the supplements and just taking my L-glutamine and L-carnitine and CoQ10 will put my strips back into ketosis - funny huh? That Atkins knew his stuff!!!

Signs of Ketosis for Jeanne:
-Bad Breath
-Thirsty feeling in mouth, regardless of amount of water drank.
-overheating in middle of night (no longer sleep with sheets on).
-VERY ENERGETIC when I'm in full ketosis swing
-Don't need to sleep very much
-No appetite when I'm in FULL ketosis swing (wish I were there now)
-The confident feeling that I am going to lose the weight FOREVER
