I think it's partly the overly PC world we now live in, but it always seemed to me if I said "Oh wow, you've lost so much weight!" would be the same as saying "Oh wow, you were so fat before!". However, now that I've experienced weight loss (I figure even 15lb has GOT to be noticeable), and got nary a comment from ANYONE, I'll probably be a little more forthcoming with my compliments next time I encounter someone who's lost weight.

Which reminds me -- you LOOK GREAT!

No you're not vain. You've worked very hard at something and feel you deserve recognition for it. If it had been a massive project at work, quiting smoking, or some other large project you would feel just as slighted. You're doing good, don't let others get you down

Although I have read and understood the reasons given for why people are unwilling to acknowledge weight loss, I sometimes can't help but thinking that these people (and I'm talking about close relations) just don't want to say anything positive because it puts them in a less positive light. Just a theory, and i may be wrong.

I'm with Cor - the increasing PC crud is likely the problem at a convention. I don't think we could make anymore more stressful than adding all this goofy PC stuff in the work place. Weren't the highly stressed postal workers enough evidence for people 10 years ago? sheesh!
Some people are shy.
Some people don't think to verbalize.
Some people are jerks.
Some people get around to saying something.
But I have to say that if I ever gave a compliment to someone about the weight they lost and they got *offended* that I had implied they were larger before, I would likely laugh due to their denial.

If you're vain than I must be the Queen of Vanity.

It's nice when people notice your hardwork and transformation... and changing the way you eat, cook and relate to food is definately hardwork.

I used to job share with a lady and still meet her for lunch from time to time and not once in the last several months, over which I have lost 45 lbs., has she mentioned it. She said something about just having seen the doctor and getting yelled at because she has gained ten pounds. We got to talking and then I managed to bring up that I had lost quite a bit on Atkins. She kinda poopooed it and mentioned she had tried it but it didn't work for her and quickly changed the subject. NOW I know why she never said anything about my weight loss...lol.
