Question My Ketostix are dark purple, but I am not losing weight. What's wrong?

I have just finished my second week of induction. I lost 5 lbs the first week, but despite maintaining lipolysis, I haven't lost any more weight. What am I doing wrong?

Possibilities
Too much fat
Not enough protein
Adding in non induction foods
SF products

You don't have a diary so I can't be more specific.

Not enough water can also give you a false purple reading. Many people here say that Ketostix should not be trusted due to the fact that there are too many factors that can cause them to react incorrectly. My sticks are always dark purple no matter what, I don't know if I trust them

Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protien one. Many get too much protien. Fat is the only substance that has no effect on blood sugar. Many find they lose best when they have fat at 60-70% of thier calories, and protien is adiquet. As you add back in carbs, you cut back on the fat to balance things.

Try using the body fat calculator at http://www.zoneperfect.com/Site/content/Calculator.asp

It shows how many grams of protien you should have for your lean mass and activity level. Too much protien can be converted to gluclose and cause the same insulin spikes that carbs can, but in a much lower amount.

Get an account at www.fitday.com it can help you keep track of what you are eating. Then if you are still having problems, others can look at your menus and offer suggestions. Weight can also come from water and muscle building, so don't sweat it to much unless things continue. Also remember to drink at least 64 oz or more of water a day. It helps keep water retention down, and a really deep purple reading on ketosticks can mean the keotenes are more concentrated because of dehydration.

Hi Sunny,

I have to agree with LadyBelle that it's possible you are not eating enough fat. Are you eating enough, period? Many folk find their weight slows or stops because they are not eating enough. (Kinda different way of eating, isn't it? Not many diets tell you to eat more! )

How about listing some of your regular menus here so we can have a look?

As for the ketostix, have a look at Doreen T's article explaining all about them in "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

All the best to you!

Rosebud
