Default Needing some final "Net Carb" validation

Hello again,

Net carbs as carbs - fiber - sugar alcohols/glycerin = net carbs per DANDR. Now, is that how you're supposed to count carbs in all stages of the diet?

Reason I ask is that I am in OWL now, and following the rules from Induction plus adding 5gm veggie carbs. But when I plug this into Fitday, my net carbs = <25, for example, today I consumed 26 total carbs, but only 14 net carbs.

So my question is: Is it ok for me to consume 25 "net carbs" even if it exceeds the examples Atkins gives in the books? For example, adding more veggies (tomorrow I add more dairy to get to 30 carbs, or is it 30 net carbs? Arggh!!)

Thanks for all the advice=)

Hi Yellowman!

You may find this thread helpful with your carb counting dilemma: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...&threadid=28869
What you actually count is net carbs, not total carbs, so you may have been shorting yourself all along.
If you aren't meeting your carb limit with the veggies you are eating, by all means feel free to add more veggies!

p.s when you count your carbs always minus the fiber and if possible the sugar alcohal (if its listed) and what is left is your net carb.
so yes go by whats left after you minus the stuff from it.
hope this helps

Lisa, thanks for the link. Looks like I have been shorting myself (on some days at least), today being one of them. Time to load up the veggies!!

I had a high veggie day for me. I skipped my usual salad (can only eat same thing for so long without getting tired of it) but I had 1.5 cups of cauliflower sauteed like rice, then at dinner I had shrimp fajitas minus the tortilla. There was alot of onion, green pepper, tomato, and topped with guacamole and lettuce. Even with all that I still managed to stay under 20g net carb.

Cals are low though, under 1200. That means I get to add a dessert, yeahh ;p Think I'll try that pork rinds with butter and cinnimon.

Hmmm... sounds interesting. Sorry to go off-topic, but how do you saute cauliflower like rice? I LOVE cauliflower, but would like to find some alternative ways to cook it... boiled, drained, no salt gets mighty boring!

I grated it with a food processor, then dumped it in heated olive oil. Let it brown a while, adding some butter when my oil level got really low. Then threw in a few things like I would of fried rice. It came out with a texture alot like rice and really tasty.
