Default Thyroid Problems and Atkins .. Any Suggestions???

Hi, I am starting this thread for my friend Becky at work. She is actually the one that more or less got me started on this WOL well she is taking a Thyroid prescription called Levoxyl which is generic for Zepta, Blood Pressure Medication called Zebeta and has been working out for 2 months and doing the Atkins Induction with weekend Cheats for 3 weeks she has cheated 3 times not very bad just like 2 cookies one day not like she did bad all day. She is wondering if there is anyone else here with similar problems, ideas to speed things up. She has only lost about 4lbs so far and wants to lost more and is hoping that maybe some people may have some suggestions. It would be very nice if you have any suggestions.

You might want to try the Thyroid forum. I have a slow thyroid as well and I only lost 4 pounds the first three weeks. My weight loss hasn't been fast, but it has been steady. I had to remain really strict with myself, though. My doctor told me that hypothyroid people just don't process carbs like many others. They get stored immediately as fat. So, those small cheats may be bigger than she realizes.

There is a forum in here for people with thyroid difficulties. Perhaps she should join up and have a chat with some of the people over there?

I'm a slow loser and suspect I have somethng wrong with my thyroid, so I'm supplementing my diet with coconut oil (the lauric acid helps stimulate your thyroid) and taking various other supplements. It's taken me about a year to lost 30lbs, and I can guarantee that I wouldn't have lost any of it if I was cheating and eating cookies and claiming it as "only a small slip".

Thank you for the info! My thyroid is removed but I do suspect we process carbs differently than someone without thyroid problems. Just another reason to low carb for me!

Prescription meds all have different effects on each person, based on their combinations. She should check with her physician or nurse regarding medical questions.

If Becky does Atkins faithfully, the way Dr. Atkins tested and tried it true, her cravings for sweets will for the most part disappear. But eating carbs on cheat days will do more harm than good. That is because her body has to work harder to produce insulin to combat the higher glucose levels from the carbs. So after she "spikes" from the carb (sugar) high, she will be more hungry.

The purpose of induction and AWOL is to allow the body to be on an even-keel from the fats and proteins. She is working out and that's a good thing. Make sure she is drinking her water, water, water and please continue to encourage her like you are. You're a good friend! ~hugs, Annie-Pie~

I seem to remember reading soemwhere that you should talk to your doctor because LC can interfere with some thyriod medications. Check out the articles and the faqs on the web site. The thyriod bored might know the answer. I just scanned it quickly since I don't have that problem and didn't bookmark it.
