Default NEW Metamucil Capsules

Metamucil now comes in capsules which is more appealing to me than mixing in your water...

Having a little trouble around back so figured I'd up my fiber. Also changed my daily veggie from lettuce salad to having cooked spinach b/c it has more fiber.

Here's what I'd like confirmation on:

6 Metamucil capsules = one serving

There are 3 carbs per serving.
There are 5 grams of fiber: 3g dietary fiber/2 g soluble fiber

So I'm assuming there are 0 carbs after subtracting the fiber. Is this assumption correct?

And what's the difference in dietary vs soluble fiber? (I'm reading up on this now)

In regards to subtracting fiber from carbs, fiber is fiber right? Both types are subtractable from the carb count??

In addition to keeping things moving, it says Fiber's also healthy for your heart and in keeping cholesterol lowered.

Seems it wouldn't hurt to pop 1 or 2 of these a day to increase fiber even if things are moving okay, is this alright?

Hi mfo,

If the label says there are 3 carbs, but 5g fibre, the fibre must have been presubtracted, leaving 3 carbs. You cannot have a negative carb count, so it seems obvious that this is what they have done.

What else does the product contain?

Yes, you are right that both soluble and insoluble fibre can be subtracted from the total carb count (except in cases like this when that has already been done ).

I think MFO got it a little confused- total carbs is 3g, total fiber is 3g, but of that fiber only 2g is soluble, leaving 1g insoluble. There is not 5g of fiber only 3g. I have the bottle in front of me now. Ingredients: psyllium husk, gelatin, polysorbate 80, caramel color, red 40 lake, blue 1 lake, & yellow 6 lake. I use this daily & have never counted it as carbs, since it's all fiber. Hope that helps clear things up.

Thanks for your comments; Now I know not to include this in my carb count. How many do you take per day? Do you take the full 6 capsule serving?

Default What's Up with Metamucil-Not Working

Okay, I've been taking the req'd dosage of 6 capsules (2 with ea main meal) for last 2-3 days and I have NOT "gone" yet.

Not to sound grose....but, although I do not feel bloated or uncomfortable I think it's odd that I have not "gone" in a while. I know that you don't have to feel that way to actually be stopped up, so I'm wondering what's going on.

I have been drinking my water too.

I have not been using caffeine lately but today I purposely took 1/2 an excendrin (b/c it contains caffeine) as well as sipping on a cup of black coffee that has caffeine thinking it might get things moving?

Oh, in addition, I've also doubled my veggie intake this week, so what else is there?

When I first started using it I was doing good.....

Alrighty, problem solved! Must have been that cup of coffee. All I know is I have a major "caffeine buzz"--hope it doesn't cause me to crave.
