Default Tacos w/o tortilla

For dinner I had tacos without tortilla. My tacos had hamburger, green onions, shredded cheddar cheese, tomatos and tabasco sauce. I am on day 9 of induction. I don't think I screwed up, did I?

Nope, sounds great!!! You could also have added sour cream (depending on your intake for the day).

you can also make 'shells' from 3 oz shredded cheddar cheese.

Dry fry the cheese in a non-stick skillet. Once it can hold together as a pancake flip it over and fry it on the other side.

Shape and use lots of paper towels to soak up the fat as it cools.

And give up the idea that this WOE entails deprivation. It's more about creativity. You can have fat. You cant have fat. You can have fat. Yay!

Those shells sound great, Iluv2cook! I'll have to try those next time I make tacos. Thanks for the tip!

Add 1 can of black soy beans and a bit of tomatoe paste and water, instant chilli, oh ya, add some chilli powder and chillies, green and red pepper, really good, made it last week and is awesome. If you have any low carb bbq sause, add a dash, steels is good, just to give it a bit of a tomatoe base, not much though, Im making a vate of it tonight as i love it.

Try the La Tortilla tortillas, and you won't have to have your tacos without the "shell." You are allowed three tortillas a week during induction. They have a TON of fiber too, so that can help with regulating you (that's always nice). I had more than three during induction, and still lost 6 pounds during two-weeks of induction (only had 20 total to lose).

Take care!

I may be wrong, but I don't recall reading anywhere in DANDR that you're allowed 3 tortillas per week on Induction. I believe that they're for OWL and so on. Please refer to the list of acceptable foods for induction to clarify what is and isn't allowed during induction.

Tiggerdy is correct. From the rules of Induction: "Eat nothing that isn't on the Acceptable Foods list. And that means absolutely nothing. Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of failure during this phase of Atkins." I did not see those tortillas on the Acceptable Foods list.

What else is good, use a lettuce leaf for a tortilla.

Default romaine

I like romaine leaves as the "shell".. they are bigger and they are bendy-er. don't have to have any lettuce inside....mmm my family will eat almost a whole head of romaine in one taco dinner. I also make my own seasoning with cumin, chili seasoning, garlic powder and salt.

Default Just a thought...

I get the Atkins products catalog about every other month or so. All his products in it are colored coded to each phase. He has the tortillas coded as OK on induction...right along with the low carb bread, and muffins. You can also look at the catalog on line at the Atkins website. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Me again. I called the Atkins line during my induction to check on the tortillas, and they said three per week are fine on induction since the fiber is so high. It does also show these o.k. in the Atkins food catalog for an induction food.

I ate more then the three allotted during induction and still eat them, and seem to be doing fine. I started lc'ing on February 24th, weighing 152 pounds, and weighed in this morning at 136 pounds, so I don't think they've hurt me too much. I have been on Sugarbusters for the past 3-4 weeks, and have lost the last 3 pounds on that program, but still eat my tortillas. Only 6 pounds to goal.

I know a lot of people are really rigid about induction, but go with what feels right to you. I even ate a few of the home-made peanut butter cups during induction, which I know is a huge no-no, but it didn't cause sugar cravings for me, and I have a lot of will-power; I'm just trying to lose the remaining pregnancy weight.

Good luck to you.
