Question Atkins/cheese question

Why the limitation of 3-4 oz. per day of cheese? If we stay at 20g of carb or lower and the our protein intake is within reason, why is cheese limited?

Thanks!

Because sometimes dairy can cause problems for us. The carbs do add up and in some cases, cheese does slow down and even stall people big time. Also, for some, it causes constipation.

I think cheese is very high in calories too.

Just through observation, it seems to me that Atkins puts limits on foods that can cause people to eat them compulsively. Cream, sweeteners and nuts also falls into this category.

I suppose that's true but you can eat too much of anything - meat, veggies, etc. and they too can cause problems. Too much protein turns into fat .... too many veggies adds up those carbs...so in summary - - anything too much of can cause problems. (foodwise) period

Thanks for the responses! I've been wanting to keep some cheese (string, maybe) on hand for snacking, but the 3-4 oz. limit concerened me.

The 3-4 oz. limit is a good guideline. It is very easy to eat too many calories worth of cheese. Too much of anything can cause a stall!

I was also suprised that we're not supposed to eat more than 3-4 ounces of cheese, but then I was used to getting high-carb junk (like rice and pasta-based dishes) with tons of cheese in it, mostly the synthetic, over-processed "cheese food" type.

It's much more enjoyable if you eat it alone, rather than mixed in foods like egg dishes.

I was considering dropping cheese, but he research that just came out that links calcium to weight loss changed my mind.
