You can get LC tomato sauce - there is a thread in the confession booth section all about ketchup addictions

Personally I use a little bit of an artificially sweetened one which is 1g carbs per 2tsp

umm

well here is Australia there is sugar in most tomato sauces yes. No idea about any other country, sorry. (But I would guess that there is extra added sugar) Do some label checking next time you are at the grocery store?

[edit]
I just looked in your journal. If you are using the Keto ketchup still, it's one of the low carb brands mentioned in the thread I was talking about earlier

Default Low-sugar tomato sauce

I eat tomato sauce and then count the carbs. There are low-sugar tomato sauces (spaghetti sauce) which I use in my crockpot over chicken. It's a little higher in carbs, but I just plan for them in my daily menu.

Reading the label really does affect your desire. I used to love V8 tomato-vegetable juice, but one look at the label these days and it's "no thanks!"
I do still use some of it in my meatloaf recipe, though.

My attitude about most foods is eat it and count it.

You can make your own and know exactly what it's made of or look for a more natural type of sauce. The more pricey ones usually don't contain sugar. I get pretty decent ones in glass jars at an Italian deli which have minimal ingredients when I don't feel like making my own. Usually they're just tomato, olive oil, salt, pepper and basil or something along those lines.

Do we have a language problem here? Isn't what Australian call tomato sauce what Americans call ketchup?
That would account for the sugar.
Fitday gives a count of 17.59 gr, carb per cup.

Carbs are carbs and sugar is sugar. It does not matter if the sugar is natural to the item or added later. Thats why tomatoes are a no-no during induction.

Actually they're not. They're on the "other vegetable" list in between summer squash and turnip.

Made the Deep Dish Pizza Quiche last night

I was surprised to see that Ragu Pizza sauce had one of the lowest carb counts of any canned or bottled sauces.

BTW, this quiche is a must try. Non-low carbing DH liked it enough to say it could go into the menu rotation!

BarbCA, yes there is a language problem.

Ketchup here is Ketchup.

Tomato sauce, is like pureed tomaoes. You can buy it in can that is just tomatoes and water, or with other things in it like sugar, and spices, to use to make tomato based sauces.

Hope this helps.

Making your own tomato sauce is really not that hard, and you get to not put sugar in, so you know what it has in it!

If you just take some plum tomatoes, toss them in boiling water for just one minute, take off the skins, cut them open and take out the seeds, then toss them into a blender with basil, olive oil, salt & pepper, and then start cooking the whole thing in a sauce pan...it really only takes about 15 minutes to get started, and is so much nicer than canned or jarred sauces! Really deliciously fresh!

Not entirely true. A lot depends on the "package" that they arrive in. When the body has to work very hard to break down the "package" that the carbs or natural sugars are wrapped in, they take longer to be released into your system and don't provoke as much of a rise in your blood sugar and resulting insulin response. For example...if I were to eat 15 grams worth of carb of broccoli, the fiber in the broccoli takes a long time to be digested and broken down before those carbs can be converted to glucose and released into my bloodstream; probably anywhere from 45-50 minutes or longer and then in a slow stream. 15 grams of carb in the form of, say, a Hershey's kiss would hit my bloodstream in less than 15 minutes and pretty much all at one time. There would be very little rise in blood sugar from the broccoli and it would be in a low curve with very little insulin being released because of the slow release into the system, but a big spike from the Hershey's kiss with a resulting crash and a much bigger insulin response because of the rapid rise in blood sugar.
It's called the glycemic index and glycemic load; how fast a food can be converted to glucose and hit your bloodstream when compared to sugar along with how much it will raise your blood sugar as compared to sugar.
