Insulin resistance & diabetes

If I stick to the diet from my nutritionist will I be able to avoid getting diabetes? - my dad and other family members have type 2.

My low carb diet is not as strict as Atkins, Zone etc as I can have all vegs - except starchy ones, pulses nuts, etc and then on top I have 35g to 'spend' on other carbs.
