For the most part, low carb protein shake powders are what they say they are It's the bars that are the worst culprits for hidden carbs from glycerin and sugar alcohols. These chemicals are required to give the bar its texture .. chewy, moist and "bar-like" ... whereas the powders don't require anything .. you add your own liquid.
Just a note though .. I have seen a few of the ready-to-drink liquid protein shakes, and they do sometimes have glycerin, polydextrose or sugar alcohol added to make it thicker without increasing fat content.
So keep reading those labels
