I'll probably eat a bit of everything but then I do all the cooking so by the time I've done it all I don't want it!

I won't eat white bread though - it makes me ill now and I really don't want stomach cramps on Christmas Day.

Im so glad that Im not the only one already thinking along these lines !!

I 'think' Im gonna have one day where I eat everything and anything I want ( it is my birthday as well - unfortunately !! , so I think I deserve it ) and then go on strict induction for a week to limit the damage !! ha ha

I think the trick is to indulge only for a couple of days, before getting back on the straight and narrow or else is sooo much harder to get back in the swing of things. - Well thats the theory anyway, I just hope I have enough will power to stick to that !!

It would be interesting to see if any of the longer term members have any menus for Christmas day, that will help us to keep relatively low carbish - although that needs to include - roasties, Christmas Pud, Sherry Trifle, Yorkshire Pudding and chocolates ha ha

I am just coming up to my third Christmas and the pattern will probably be the same.

By the time the new year rolled in the first year I surveyed the scene with a bleary eye. Mixed in with all the collected debris of the previous week were mince pie remains, left-over turkey stuffing, christmas pudding bowls, stollen wrappings and a tin of quality Street with just the hard caramels left (the purple ones with the brazil nuts in were the first to go).

The scales had moved up about 5 or 6 pounds and reverted to induction. It took most of January to regain my pre Christmas weight.

The second Christmas I knew I would be able to repeat the experience. Sure enough I put on weight. But it took longer to take it off in the new year. The reason was that I was not keeping a grip on carbs for the most part of December. The weight gain was 6 -7 pounds and turned to fat rather than water weight.

One day will be a breeze. If you go for a walk on Christmas afternoon you will not even notice.

Have a great day.

This will be my third low carb Christmas.

Last year I did things half and half. Had roast parsnips, but no potatoes. Had Christmas pudding too. In the afternoon had some cake that was in the freezer (been there for over a year), but did not enjoy it and did not finish it. Did put on quite a few pounds, as would be expected.

If you do decide to have the day off, as others have suggested, it is best just to confine it to one or two days only, then the damage can be rectified pretty quickly.

Have not decided what I will do this year. But certainly plan to spend it on my own.

Thanks Anne
I am at the moment planning on sticking to what I am doing now! I will have a xmas dinner w/out tatties! I always buy mine from m & s the day b4. I buy it already and waiting to go in the oven....even the gravy is a carton and i just snip the end off and sling it in the micky. I have done this for the past 8 yrs ! (it means I get time to undo Barbie boxes - they take forever these days) and play with the kids etc.. It is an expense for 2 days (we bubble whats left for boxing day with cold meats) but sure is worth it.!! I may put it as a 'good idea' on the UK page actually. I just hope I can stick to my words on this 'one day'
thanks

Great thread Twigs.

My thought at present is to forget the diet for Christmas day (though probably avoid bread - cause I think that might be an allergy for me). I'm thinking in terms of one day's blow-out. I don't have loads of socialising to do before Christmas so it should be easy to keep it to Christmas day only. Depends a bit if I am invited to stay over with friend over new year whether I have to relax my rules a bit for longer.

Good Food magazine have just published that annual article on who makes the best pud/cake/mince pies/etc, and I suddenly thought: what are we going to eat at christmas? !
If we don't have visitors, we'll be OK, but if we do, Christmas will last longer than 2 days!
Can't be helped, but it will be back to induction immediately after.

A few weeks ago I had decided that I was gonna have a free day and go mad. but I've now decided that I'm gonna stick with LCing

I haven't missed my tatties yet, so I don't think I will at christmas. As for everything else, veggies, yeh, but I do that already, might have a few carrots tho, but not so they do me harm and of course a little gravy. A glass or two of white wine and a little of some homemade LC cheesecake (I've never been a big fan of christmas pud or mince pies).

I'm actually looking forward to a LC Christmas, no feeling so bloated and stuffed u can't move, and having to put on some elasticated bottoms cuz ur jeans are getting to tight. Why would anyone wanna feel stuffed like a turkey at christmas?

Hey you never know, I might even wanna take a romantic christmas stroll as the night draws in, seeing as it will be my first christmas with my darling BF...... But don't hold me to that
