Default Vietnamese Resteraunt

I finally refound the vietnamese resteraunt I had fallen in love with years ago. I think I made wise choices for food, though I severly overate and have a stomach ache. The stomach ache made me wonder if perhaps my choices weren't that great though. I am currently on around 50-60g of carbs a day, and didn't have many at all through rest of day, maybe 10 net.

For an appatizer we had wrapped shrimp, which was shrimp wrapped in ground meat. Then we shared lemon grass soup. I had alot of onions (which I didn't eat because I don't like them). It was a very thin spicy broth with squid. shrimp, and mussles. I had a spicy brown sauce stirfry with duck, squash, zucchini, peppers, and carrots which I didn't eat. The sauce may of had a thickner, but not much, as it was pretty thin. While everyone else had flaming icecream, I had vietnamese coffee, which is a thick strong coffee over a thick cream.

I did have 2 of my son's small spring rolls, and 1 bite of the noodles (celephane maybe?). Overall i didn't think it was that high carb. I was bloated, ill and blah after though.

Hi LadyBelle.

I too love Vietnamese food. There's this Vietnamese restaurant close to me and I used to eat there at least once a week. I loved their Pho soups, Vermicelli with BBQ Pork, Spring Rolls, and a million other things it seemed. I haven't been to that restaurant since I started LCing though. I know I could go there and eat something lc (for an example, in Pho, just eat mostly the meat and veggies), but I'm afraid to start!!

I don't know exacty how many carbs you had, but the bloating could be the result of the high sodium food. Vietnamese food tends to have a lot of fish sauce in it.

The bloating may also be a sign of monosodium glutamate -- a lot of Asian restaurants put MSG in their food and it always bloats me up horribly. You can ask them to leave it out, but since it is already in a lot of the flavorings/sauces they use, it is hard to avoid it entirely. When they say they will leave it out, it often means that they just won't add any extra beyond what is already in the ingredients they are using.

i've been to a couple of vietnamese restos since i started l-cing... i usually ordered beef tripe, mixed seafood and tofu soup! yum!

beware of the vietnamese springrolls though, really high in carb.. not just the wrapping, but also the inside (a lot of vermicelli in those) plan to cheat one of these days and have an order (i love them!) weeell i don't plan a cheat till i reach 165lbs

I looked up a few of the things online. The spring rolls I found nutricional info ranging from 6-16 carbs. The viet coffe I thought I was being so safe with though was extreamly high. Apperently it isn't cream in the bottom, it's sweetned condensed milk

The soup recipes I found also ranged wildly in carbs, mostly depending if cornstarch or other thickner was used. As thin as the broth was in this resteraunt though I think I was safe. Next time I may just stick to the soup or a stir fry.

Luckily when I woke up I was same weight I have been last few days. Though my tummy still feels somewhat crampy and ick. Maybe a touch of constapation or something.

I have pho all the time. We just order it with chicken and shrimp, no noodles, and and order of steamed veggies. Delicious and still LC! I never bloat when I eat it.
