Default Low Carb whiter teeth

Good Morning!
I have noticed my teeth are alot whiter these days since I started cutting the carbs! Anyone else had this experience? BUT, I also smoke from time to time and still have ciggarette stains as I am trying to quit. Since calcium is what makes teeth strong and white, what are the best source besides dairy products (which I do not consume) to obtain calcium?

Default Good morning!

Haven't experienced the teeth whitening effect of low carb - just the breath stinkening

Are you taking supplements? Dr. Atkins recommends several, including calcium, magnesium, potassium. A good multi is important, too, especially when putting your body under the stress of losing weight and you're an occasional smoker, coffee drinker.

Although my teeth are whiter and feel less "placky" in the morning I unfortunately for the first time in 20 years have cavities! Ugh. I do take calcium suppliments so believe me I was shocked recently when I went for my yearly dental exam. I floss and brush regularly too.

Broccoli and rhubarb are both excellent sources of calcium. I know there are more but of course I can't remember. Try a search on google and I'm sure you'll find lots of info.

Yvonne,
Do you think that your teeth having cavaties is because of the low carb? That worries me...

Lowcarbing is flushing out minerals, calcium included, out of our bodies - that is why we have to take supplements. Mineral water, not carbonated is rich in calcium and I drink it all the time together with filtered water. There are also excellent calcium supplements.

All I can say is I have noticed whiter teeth...I even googled it to end up here to see if I was imagining things. Very weird but nice freebie side effect.
