Question Too many carbs for one meal?

Howdy all. Day 44 of Atkins, on induction level carbs, but with some nuts & seeds. Loving how it's going so far: 12.5# and 5.8" lost!

Question: by the time I just added up all the stuff I put in my lunch salad (via Fitday) it was 11.5 carbs. I estimated (perhaps on the high side) the amounts, but here's what was in it:

Mesculane (sp?) ~3c
Radishes ~.5c sliced
Mushrooms ~.5c sliced
Cold asparagus 8 medium spears
Blue Cheese dressing ~2tbsp

So according to Fitday, this is 11.5 carbs! On just ONE meal! I am full, and tonight for supper I'll just have some burgers; was gonna have some cooked veggie, but I guess not now.

Just wanted to know if that is too much for one meal? Oh, that was the only meal I've had today!

That's fine, as long as you're not trying to do "strict" Induction. I usually get half my daily carbs from one meal, and try to "save" 3 to 4 grams "available" for snacking on vegetables or nuts outside meals.

Don't worry. I got most of my carbs from my lunchtime salad also when I was on Induction (and to be honest I still do!). I tried to save a few carbs for supper so I could have a veggie side or melted cheese on my burger.

Are you subtracting the fiber? The 3 cups of salad probably didn't even have 1 net carb.

You should be having 20 net carbs (total carbs - fiber) each day. It is almost impossible to get that on salads.

Default Yes, I did subtract net carbs...

According to fitday here's the breakdown:

Salad greens mixed: 1.32
Asparagus: 3.14
Radishes: .62
Mushrooms: 2.02
Olives: 2.46
Dressing: 2.0

TOTAL = 11.5

Think I forgot olives in the original post; the salad is from one of those pay by the pound places; dressing, have my own bottle--2 tblsp = 2 carbs.

It doesn't really bother me that much; I was just suprised at how many carbs it added up to!

If you eat a lot of salad, the best thing you can do is buy an inexpensive kitchen scale. You'll probably find you can eat larger quantities of veggies going by the ounce or gram, rather than using the cup-size guesstimate method.

It's a very handy tool. Might seem like an extra pain in the butt step, but it's worth it.
