Question Product questions

I keep hearing about sugar free jell-o pudding. Is this available somewhere in Canada? All I have seen is low fat and the carb count is too high.

Also is diet rite (made with splenda) available in only specific supermarkets? I have not been able to find it either.

I love our Clearly Canadian drinks (that say bottled in the USA on them heheh), but does anyone know where you can buy a package/flat/etc of them? I have found them at one store but it is in the refrig. part and I pay $1.50 each. Would be nice to buy quantity rather than single serving sizes.

Does anyone have the nutritional breakdown for plain pork rinds? I want to input it into fitday but can't without the little details.

Lastly, which is the best/least carb protein shake? There are lots available here but I dont want to invest $40 and then find out it is gross.

Thanks,

Stina

The low fat Jell-O pudding is the same as sugar free. I think the carb count is for if you make it with milk, it would be a little lower with cream. I make it with 1/2 cream, 1/2 water. There is also Oetker light mousse, which I think is lower in carbs than Jell-O pudding. Yes, the Oetker chocolate has 3.3g carbs / serving of powder and the Jell-O white chocolate that I have has 6.3g / serving. It all depends on what your carb limit is , how badly you want a treat and how much you eat!

Diet Rite is not available in Canada. There is Virgin Cola made with Splenda but it is hard to find, I've only ever seen it in small bottles at some 7-11's.

I have a bag of Porky's Pork rinds here and a serving of 14g (6 pieces) has
77 calories
8g protein
5g fat
0g carbs

I like the Protein Power shake mix, got it at Loblaws for about $25 for a huge container. Also like another one that I can never remember the name of with Donovon Bailey on the container, they have it at some health / nutrition stores and you can get an individual serving size envelope to try for about $2.50. Sometimes they give out free samples of it mixed up to try too. Can't remember the store that was doing that but it was in the Oshawa shopping centre.

I don't know if you're anywhere close to a place that sells things in bulk, but I buy soy protein isolate powder (unsweetened, nothing but protein powder) and make my own shakes with soy milk (look for unsweetened, that has the least carbs, but is also hardest to find) and Atkins sugar-free chocolate syrup (sweetened with Splenda - YUM!) and sometimes other flavors as well.

I also like to use the powder in sugar-free jello pudding -- I make it with 1/4 cup cream, 1 3/4 cups water, a couple packets sweetener, and 1/2 oz (two tablespoons) soy powder, and after it is sufficently chilled, it tastes like chocolate mousse! I divide it into 3 servings of 3/4 cup each, 12g CHO 9g PRO each serving but I'm not sure how much is fiber for those who subtract it. I'll find out though

A superstore will be in town later this fall so perhaps they will have a good bulk section. I am heading into town to check out a fairly large health food outlet and they have bulk so I may try them. I think chocolate shakes would be great for breaky some days but after my experience last year with a gnc protein shake (blech blech, had to hold my nose to drink the stuff), I wanted some opinions first. making my own flavors from added syrups is a great idea...then I won't be stuck with one taste.

I had forgotten about the oetker lite mousse. Made that one day on induction and didn't read the box properly heheh. Ate the entire bowl full (made with heavy cream and water) over the course of a day. Needless to say, I blocked the incident and haven't returned to that store where it is available. I guess I also didn't read the pudding correctly as I thought it was like 22 carbs before mixing in milk. Will check it out tonite. Thanks for the info (and that awesome sounding recipe Deb, will be trying that).
