Cramping is caused by a lack of magnesium, not potassium. Lowered potassium is usually associated with fatigue and headaches. Magnesium is a 'soothing' supplement that allows calcium and potassium to do their jobs - it is something most of us are defficient in due to our modern diets. Supplements should be chelated, and usually taken with calcium (citrate, not carbonate). Both come in one pill in a ratio of 2:1 (333mg cal / 167mg magnesium). Taking one with each of your 3 meals and one an hour before bed will alleviate cramping and greatly improve the quality of your sleep.

Default Leg cramps and exercise

Last night I went to water arobics (deep water) and got the worst leg cramp I have had since being pregnant. It was about 35 mins into the class... This a.m. I still cant walk properly.

I am going to go and get some supplements today, but am wondering if I should take the day off from the gym, or will working out help it?

I don't want to make things worse that is for sure... OUCH!!!!!

Thanks

Tawnya, I'd rest the leg today - it's not a good idea to work a sore muscle. The supplements should help you as should drinking more water. Also, try to stretch the muscle out a few times during the day and gently massage it.

Hope it's feeling better soon
