Default Chips

Does anyone know of a good substitute for chips? I tried cutting up a lo-carb tortilla and frying it - um, no, not like a chip. I am tired of cauliflower. Pork rinds are ok with cream cheese, but I want something I can dip in salsa or real chip dip like french onion or something.

pork rinds. They are good to dip with anything.

Atkin's Nutritionals has a product called 'crunchers' - they come in different flavors and are like chips.

CarbSense has come out with some chips that have gotten very good reviews on this board. I haven't seen good reviews for the other "faux-tortilla chips." I can't wait to try the CarbSense chips! Not sure where you can find them, probably some on-line places or health food stores.

You've been reading my mind! I too have been wanting something different with a chip feel/taste. How did it go frying the tortilla? I've been thinking of trying that.

Keta has a new tortilla chip, reviewed else where in this site. I have not tryed them as they have 8 carbs per 18 chips (I think).
But maybe I will have to "budget" that in someday to get my craving satisfied.

The crunchers are great! Atkins Center sent a sample in my last order and I really enjoyed them. The Keto chips I tried on the other hand, were horrible! I threw them in the trash.

Also, someone posted about something called Just the Cheese or something like that made in Wisconsin. These were reviewed at holdthetoast.com in one of the ezines and Dana thought they were really good. I'm going to look more into these at some point, but for right now, I need to get my snacking under control and get back to basics, so it will have to wait at least two weeks from the time I get the low carb junk food under control.

The Carbsense chips are delicious!!! They are 8 grams carb per serving, but worth it every once in awhile. They, of course, couldn't be eaten during induction, but after they are a really nice change. The Pico De Gallo are really tasty. I get mine from Low Carb Connoisseur (www.low-carb.com).

Good luck, and enjoy. The Crunchers are pretty good, but I prefer the Carbsense over the Crunchers.

Thanks for the tips! I'll have to look around and see if I can find the Crunchers and Carbsense chops locally - not sure I want to buy a whole box till I have tried them.

The fried tortillas were kinda like cardboard. More chewy than crunchy. Bad enough that I won't even attempt it again LOL

But, boy have I been wanting some chips or crackers or something lately!

I have read in one of the other forums that baking grated cheese (in chip size piles) works well. I think they baked it on parchment paper. I've yet to try it but it sounds promising.

Pork rinds are my new favorite thing. I use them to hold cheese, and crunched up in salad. I had them with Brie yesterday and it was dEEEvine!
I bet they are terrific with salsa!

I LOVE the CarbSense soy tortilla chips. Taste a lot like the real thing. I make nachos with them.

I also like the Atkins Crunchers, but just the plain flavor.

Just the Cheese chips are great, but are only about the size of a U.S. quarter, so not great for dipping. I like the jalepeno flavor the best so far.

I go for celery for dipping a lot of the time, too.

Lightbulb baked not fried

rather than frying the tortilla, try cutting into quarters and BAKING on a cookie sheet. That works. Also, pork rinds dipped in salsa and sour cream, or made like nachos with grated cheese, beef, sour cream, salsa, olives, guac., tomatoes...yummmm! I absolutely HATE pork rinds plain, but smothered in stuff is another story. Also, try the cinnamon, splenda and butter pork rind thing--OMG, so addictive. Tastes like churros.
