Default Low Carb French Fries Coming Our Way!

There was an article in the Seattle Times recently about a woman who's "invented" low carb french fries. They are, of course, made from good ol' cauliflower! She is trying to get a contract with leading food processors to get these babies on the market soon. Won't that be nice!

That is wonderful!! I was telling my co-worker this morning that I smelt french fries and she said that I was just craving them. I believe she was right.

Lkonzelman:
How would you do the turnips? Would you first roll them in butter, ground pork rinds and then fry? My inquiring mind is begging to know!
You're not the first to mention the merits of turnips!

Goldenfish: Too funny, I think you must work downwind of a BK or something, eh?

Yeah, I really miss fries. My wife said she would never go on Atkins because there are no lo-carb fries. Well, if this works out, maybe she will eat her words and fries. Although she doesn't need to drop an ounce... Any guess how you would make these with couliflower? Put it in a food processor, shape it, and then deep fry?

Hi annie

I'm not Lisa but this is how I make mine:

I just peel my turnips, cut them like fries, spread on a cookie sheet with olive oil. Sometimes I put some Spike spice on them and cook at 400 until they are done (15-20 minutes)
I eat mine with Mayo or Ranch dressing... VERY YUMMY!!!

Yes, I've tried turnip fries but they still taste like turnips. And I like turnips, but your brain is hoping for a french fry and unfortunately you get a turnip fry instead

I find it's the opposite! I've had regular fries and find that they taste so bland after eating turnip fries!!

Erick that is so funny that she'd go on Atkins if they had LC fries...she probably weighs 110 soaking wet, right? At least you've got great support with her. Congrats, btw, you are doing, as Billy Crystal would say, "mahvelous".

Airedales: Thanks for the idea! Hmmm, I have to agree with the others about them just not tasting like fries. But...it's a new taste, and with a little seasoning, who knows? Just think, the right person, with the right amount of moola, could make a fortune on these things.

I don't know how they would make the cauliflower ones. I know how to make the mashed potato type, but...hmmmm. verrrrry interesting!

Thanks Annie-Pie! I appreciate the kind words! She weighs 120 and looks perfect. She has been an incredible support and I couldn't have lost so much w/out her. I actually lost 3 more lbs last week so I am down to 192! Only 2 more pounds to my goal weight but I think I am going to drop my goal to 185. I have to admit, this diet is really awesome - I am eating everything I love (except pasta) and getting thin - who would've thunk it?!

I tried turnip fries once and they did not tast like fries at all. In fact, I didn't like the bitter aftertaste. I'd be allover those low carb fries though. That's the only way I like to eat potatoes, lol.
