They are not a berry. Cherries have about 17 grams of carbs per cup (that is after fiber subtraction), and are a bit high on the glycemic index. I don't deny myself a couple in the summer, like five. And definitely not on induction...

I would limit myself to 1 or 2 on some LC Ice Cream. I've always been told I'm weird beccause I eat the stem (of the cherry) also.

I think you are talking about marachino cherries?

If not, yes eating the stems of fresh cherries is a bit weird!

If so, we should not be eating marachino cherries AT ALL. Soaked and "marinated" in sugar syrup...

Default bing cherries

I have been craving some fresh cherries also so I checked on this USDA site that you just type in the kind of food and it says it's nutritional information

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl

per cherry, after subtracting fiber there' s about 1 carb.

I know I was sad after finding that out so if there's a day where I have an extra carb or two I have one or two.

What do you do with the extras? I've found that the chipmunks in our yard LOVE cherries....

Whatever kind they sell in supermarkets on the aisle with the Ice Cream. I was never aware that was more than one type of cherry. I looked it up in fitday and Cherries, maraschino is listed as 1.22g of Net carbs.

Not understocked...just not very low-carb friendly. I can't understand it...I constantly hear about locals doing Atkins...but, I've never met one in person or seen a shopping cart (other than my own) without bread or some other HC food in it.

I swear...they must have 50 brands and varieties of sugar, but they don't carry even a single brand of Coconut Oil. One or two brands of Butter, but every conceivable Brand and Variety of Margarine. Atkins...maybe 3 or 4 products (Mostly Shakes and Bars) hidden in the Pharamacy section. Weight Watchers and Slim Fast...the whole shebang right out there with all the other foods.

At one store they have two shelves marked "Restricted Fat"...But, not one marked "Restricted Carb." I swear, if there are all these folks doing Atkins around here...they must be hiding. At the bookstore, I see his books flying off the shelves...but, I haven't seen anyone practicing Low-Carb.

That's fairly normal, no coconut oil and a ton of sugar. They sell to the majority. The walmart here just recently finaly got the hint about LC. They can't keep things like Atkins shakes on the shelf and they are slowly expanding their stock. Most things are in pharmacy, but recently grocery caught on and started offering Le carb icecream and 3 types of Le chef dinners. The deli person told me a lot of people have been asking about nitrate free meat.

To get stores to change, start asking for things or if they have LC items. They will get the hint and start stocking them.

Just checked at Wal-Mart...Had to get a fan anyways (AC isn't working and it is Hot as Hell here in the Summer.) They have California Cherries hidden amongst the Strawberries. They don't like cherries at a casual glance: Black instead of red and much larger.

Marachino cherries are not "real" cherries. They are dyed and soaked in syrup and canned. Those cherries you saw are true bing cherries that are almost black in color they are so red. They are truly yummy.
