Default Salad Dressing

I need some input on making a NeanderThin friendly salad dressing but don't like the recipe for the one in Audette's book. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

My favorite dressing is a modified Caesar Dressing:
(For real Caesar, you add Romano cheese, but it's good without it, too.)

1 egg yolk
1 clove garlic, raw
1 anchovy fillet
.5 teaspoon mustard
.5 - 1 cup olive oil
juice of half a lemon

If you have a stick blender (they are SO USEFULL!):
put everything except the lemon juice in a container (I use
a plastic 12oz cup) blend till thick, add lemon juice to taste.

If you don't have a stick blender:
(Just like making Mayo, ) Put the first 4 ingredients in a mixing bowl,
(oh, you have to mince/crush the garlic clove) mix a little to combine,
slowly mix/whisk the oil in till its thick, add lemon juice to taste.

Of course, you can juggle the ingredients to suit your
own taste. This dressing has the advantage of eating
raw eggs and garlic, which is very paleo. Just don't
breath on anyone after you eat it.

Don't worry about the garlic, you are talking to an immigrant kid whose favorite snack was chopped raw garlic sprinkled on caraway rye bread. I would also rub the crust of the bread with fresh garlic. Yummy. White bread and soda had been invented but you never saw them at our place. In fact, you never saw anything processed at our place. Perhaps that was why I was never sick as a child. But that's another story. Thanks for the recipe. It sounds good and I'll try it this weekend.

Sprinkle salt, pepper, garkic powder and olive oil over the salad and toss. My husband has actually said he likes salad now.

I do the same thing but I use minced fresh garlic from the jars in place of the garlic powder.

Okay here is what I just made. My first attempt at a salad dressing.

i think this is an 8 oz bottle. he he

I am naming it too!

Rach's Tuscan Fun Salad Dressing
In the empty bottle put:
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon Spike No Salt Version Seasoning
1/4 teaspoon Powdered Garlic
1/4 teaspoon Summer Savory
Fill bottle half way with Red Wine Garlic Vinegar
and top with Olive Oil

Shake well and Voila!

Now, I think that this doesn't have a lot of flavor. But maybe it will get better over the next week. If not I am going to double the seasonings.
It did taste nice, but not spicy.

often I don't even put dressings on salads...I just add a lot of fatty foods like avocados, eggs or meat. I'm not really a fan of salad dressing anyways, except caesar....

Default Citrus & Ginger

Heres a simple dressing:

1:Get some juice from lime. lemon and several oranges
(modify orange ratio depending on how sweet you want your dressing, or even add honey if allowed)

2: Add some grated fresh ginger and some grated fresh garlic to taste.
3: Add some extra virgin olive oil (I usually do 1 part citrus to 2 parts oil)
4: Salt & Pepper to taste.

A good spring dressing!

I just drizzle some olive oil on my salad. I like my food plain and simple.

I have not tried Ray's salad dressing in the book yet but I will do so the first chance I am in the mood for a salad. Mostly I have been eating a winter style paleo diet since I switched to Neanderthin the other day. I just had 2 big hamburger patties with a thick slice of tomato in the middle for a snack.

since i've recently switched over, i have been trying find innovative, not boring, and delicious ways to please my palate with produce. since cold salad with cold dressing hasn't sounded good to me lately, i've developed a warm version, or a heated dressing that i pour on cold salad greens. what i do is this:

I take a bowl of fresh baby spinach, sliced green onion, sliced mushrooms, and sliced radishes for myself and set aside.
In a pot or pan, I heat a bit of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) to suit my taste, usually 1-2 tablespoons. I saute some garlic and red pepper and black pepper flakes in oil, add some sliced crunchier veggies, like sliced celery or squash, and saute a minute. i then add some lemon juice and a bit of water to mild it out, and season to taste. once the hot dressing is yummy, i quickly pour it all over my bowl of raw spinach, toss it up, and then bon appetite!
i eat this with any type of protein. today i had this with seasoned chicken tenders that i sauteed in EVOO and it was devine! a made some extra hot dressing and poured it over the chicken, too -

i love this and have been eating it almost every other meal

Last week I made a really yummy, easy dressing. It consisted of olive oil, some rice vinegar, salt and some of that old style grainy mustard. It's really really really good! My friends are big fans of this stuff.

thanks for the support and encouragement, hellistile! it's been such a great thing to have found this place. since i've just started things have been a little challenging, as far as my energy and the withdrawals from my former poisonous/toxic lifestyle of 15 years: sugar, bowls of condiments, and more sugar. my friends and family thought i was totally nutty when they'd catch me eating bowls of ketchup, dressings, sauces, fudge sauce, and any other condiments in place of real food; they finally started making a big joke about it and i let them laugh, but they didn't know how much i was hurting and dying to break free from that inside. i've recently thrown everything in my kitchen away, and restocked with REAL FOOD! it's been great, but i admit, a bit challenging.

thanks again for all the support and i'm just happy to be here

also, articslug, that last dressing sounds great - with the grainy mustard especially!

Thumbs up Best Dressing to date.......

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi!
I absolutely LOVE the Low Carb French Dressing from Wishbone. It is only 1 net carb per 2T serving (which is plenty for me) and it doesn't taste any different from the original. This is a big deal for me because I don't like Ranch or Blue Cheese and for a long time they seemed like the only option for salads. I don't particularly care for salad [gasp!!] but now I want to eat them because I now have a salad dressing that I actually like. Don't get me wrong, I love 99% of all vegetables - minus lettuce. I hate lettuce. Now, it seems a little more palatable.
