Default Ok, so am I doing the right thing here?

So I'm currently in OWL, losing weight slowly, apx. 1 pound per week, maybe less. (I'd like to lose faster but I'm finding it hard to go back to a pure induction level diet. I've been adding a few new items to my diet since induction: sunflower seeds, Janet's low carb bread, I think it's local to New York City - amazing stuff)

Here's today's menu. According to Fitday, this menu totaled 50 grams carbohydrate (!!!) When I go back and subtract the grams of fiber, I end up with approximately 26 gms. carbs. If I add in 1 gm "hidden" carbs per oz. cheese, I get 30 gms. carbs.

So depending on how you look at it, either I'm on the high side of OK for me (I try to keep between 20-30 gms carbs per day), or I'm way off plan at 50 gms total carbs.

Your thoughts?

Dan

If you're putting everything into fitday then you should just subtract the fiber from the carb count. Fitday already calculates carbs for cheese if you've put it in. It is possible you have a few extra hidden carbs that you don't think or know about. I usually try to stay between 3-5 carbs below the carb count I don't want to go over just in case something was missed. For instance, right now I am staying below 20 carbs, so I shoot for 15-18 carbs after subtracting fiber on fitday. From what you said in your post it sounds like you're find, though.

I wouldn't count total carbs, fiber carries no energy. Your level of 25-30 netcarbs sounds fine to me.

Your totals looks fine, but you'll just have to see how you do with the bread. Have you been eating it long? As a man, you may get away with higher carbs.

I could probably eat those totals if it was mainly veggies, but daily bread would slow me way down. YMMV.

Try it and see how it goes.

Dewi,

Try Fairway at 74th and Broadway. Other "gourmet" stores in the city should have it, i.e. Garden of Eden. It's 3 net carbs per slice, I've had the rye bread and the multi grain, I'd recommend the multi grain.

I use 2 slices for french toast or grilled cheese when I'm tired of plain old eggs. I try not to have it more than twice a week.

Dan

Thanks for the recommendation on the bread.

Nutrawize makes a great bagel 2.5carbs for a NY size bagel. You can go to HealthSource Pharmacy on 34th between park and lex or there is one on 2nd ave and think 68th street.

thanks,
Dewi
