I understand that muscle weighs more than fat, but how much more?

does anyone have the actual density figures for human fat and muscle?

Hi Morgan, I've never seen figures, but I can give you a link to a picture that may help.

dont you just hate it when google yields as soon as you post on a board

anyway for those of us who like such details.....
(figures for a white male, tiny bit different for other races/ages)

density of fat = .901 g/cc
density of fat free body = 1.1 g/cc

so i guess to put it in figures we can imagine (sorry imperial types)

a kilo of fat would be the same size as 1100ml of water
a kilo of muscle would be the same size as 910ml of water

a 20% difference ...wow!

hehe thanks Rosebud, but that picture is just feral

I've seen those fat vs. muscle items at a fitness awareness class I took last year. The instructor passed them around for us to hold. They feel weird too. LOL
