Default We may be carrying our own cure..

You may recall the section in Dr. Bernstein's book where he mentions the possiblilty of those of us with some functioning beta cells getting them cloned and reinstalled and then being non-diabetic. I thought about that - being able to drink a non-diet soda, have anorder of onion rings, a piece of pie, whatever. Than thought, why? Why would I go back to that horribly system-insulting way of eating? I think even if they cured me I'd eat low-carb. Tho of course with the occasional indulgence, heh heh.

Indeed why? Unless you developed diabetes as a result of an autoimmune attack on your pancreas that destroyed your beta cells, why get them cloned and re-implanted only to go back to the way of eating that burned out your beta cells in the first place?
As the saying goes, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten.".

OTOH, once you get good control and get down to your ideal weight, I see no reason not to have an occasional (defined as a couple of times a year) indulgence. Even though I'm not yet at my goal weight, I do indulge in something decadent a couple of times a year, usually around the Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday season, but I also know when I do so that I'll be paying the price for my indulgence as well and go into it with my eyes wide open. Funny thing is that the longer I low carb, the less attractive those indulgences look to me compared to the price that I know I will pay for having them (leg cramps, feeling like crud for a couple of days afterwards, gaining a couple of pounds, etc...).

Default I'd take it in a heartbeat!

To be able to walk barefoot again!

As for food, it would be lovely to only have to deal with water gain or a yucky feeling when one over-indulged, and not to worry that blindness or kidney failure is a day closer because of a couple of high sugar days.

I would like to not have the anxiety of testing myself all the time, trying to second guess what is going on in my body!!

I would still LC, as blood glucose is not the only effect of carb overload. I feel great on LC, better than I have in years!!

Yeah, although I DO occasionally miss having 'fries' with my burger...oh yes, and not having to eat my burger with a knife and fork! Oh, for those carefree days of cruising down the road, burger in hand, the other on the wheel....
(Well, actually, I do still do that, I just have perfected the art of nibbling on the burger part and pinching off the bun. I'm sure it looks REAL funny to my fellow motorists who happen to pull up next to be at a traffic light! But hey, if you drive 200 miles a day like I do, you gotta eat out....a lot!)
