Default Another Ketosis Question

OK... so I know when you are in ketosis you are producing ketones from both dietary fat and bodily fat. So my question is, how can you ensure that you are in fact burning bodily fat and not just dietary fat... because I eat a lot of fat during the day and I wonder if the "purple" on the ketostix is just from that and not from burning my own stores... Maybe I am missing something here? I don't think I understand the process as well as I'd like to.

Thanks!
Tangie

You can't tell from the ketostix. You tell by losing weight, or at least inches. That's why ketostix, though fun, aren't the be all and end all. If you're burning up all the ketones you're making, the ketostix don't show at all, though you're in ketosis.
If you're eating very low carbs, your body will be burning fat - what other options does it have?

If you can manage it, stop peeing on sticks, jump on the scales once a week (OK, I still jump on mine every day!) and measure once a week.
Good luck, Jay

Just to add....I was registering purple all month long in July...lost only 1 lb and barely an inch here and there. August...same thing. This is why I fell off track last month...seems that I "thought" I was in ketosis when I may have not been. I would not judge if you are or arent' by sticks...like Jay said...if you are losing weight or inches...that is a better indicator.

Your most accurate reading would be first thing in the morning, before eating anything.

I finally gave them up. They can be useful at first as reassurance, I guess, but I go by how I feel and whether I'm losing or not. The money I save pays for a nice steak.....lol

You have already been given some great information. What I would say is that you need to be eating just over 1,000 calories a day and not a great deal more. If you have too many more calories then you are providing your body with all the fat it needs in the food that you are eating. I don't know if you have factored this into your equation
