newbie and vegetarian

Hello,

I stumbled across the low carb diets last days because of a friend starting atkins.
I have been looking into it since but it does not sound the right thing for me.
Especially because I am vegetarian AND I do not to have a LOT of weight to lose , just 16 pounds.

I am interested in hearing experiences with being vegetarian.
My questions for now are: are we allowed to have whole milk and yogurt? And are there any limitations in portion size or products?

Greetings from netherlands

Welcome

Schwarzbein has a great vegeterian cookbook out, I am not vegetarian but my sister gave me the book. There is a great chili relleno recipe in it. Cream is recommended and yogurt if you can find some without sugar.

In the SPII book you try to figure out what type you are. I am insulin resistant and she recommends 20 carbs per meal and letting your body tell you how much protein and fat you need. 7 - 20 carbs per snacks. The carb allowance is less if you have adrenal gland burnout and the allowance is more if you have healthy adrenal glands and are not insulin resistant. Her recommendations in book I may be less complicated, but I haven't read it.

In the first Schwarzbein book, there is a detailed discription of the vegetarian way of following the plan. It includes ways to get adequate amounts of protein and recipe suggestions as well. I am not a vegetarian so I can't help you in that regard. This a program that is all about healthy eating...no articificial sweetners, and very low amounts of man made carbs.

Good Luck!
