quick question relating to carbs & polyols....

Ok, was 'gagging' for something sweet today, so nipped into Boots and found some diabetic barley sugars.

According to the packet, it states that each sweet contains 3 carbs, however am i right in saying that you then deduct the polyols - which in this case is also 3grams, therefore making the sweets carbless !!?? Is this correct or have I lost the plot !?

Also I seem to remember that although we can each such foods, we should do so in moderation because they can make you more likely to stall - again is this right, would be interested in peoples views on this !!

Thanks

Lisa :)

hi Lissa, yes, you can subtract the polyols, they have very little,if any effect on blood sugar which makes them suitable for low carbers and diabetics but be careful with having too many, they can give you the runs and they do cause weightloss to stall in some ppl.

Holland and Barrett do simular sweets that are better, the makers are Sula and you can get caramel, orange or strawberry flavour ones.No ecg too. ;)

Enjoy those sweets Lisa. Never tried them myself. Polyols are no problem, except from too many acting as a laxative, unless your body is sensitive to artifical sweetners. As Christine has said they can stall some people, but must make a nice change. Don't have too many calories though.
