Default Lactitol - Sugar Substitute

This may already be a topic that's been discussed, but I don't see it here.

Yesterday, my supervisor introduced me to products made with a sugar substitute called lactitol. They tasted so good, I ran out and got some Reese's peanut butter cups to sooth my sweet tooth.

Each bag has only about ten minuature pieces and all together that's about 6 carbs. I greedily consumed the entire thing.

Now, the package says that lactitol can produce a laxitive effect. I learned this the hard way. This stuff should be in the pharmaceutical section, not in the candy aisle.

I must admit, it was very mild and is much cheaper than Exlax. Maybe this isn't so bad after all.

Actually, lactitol is a "sugar alcohol" and if you didn't see any of that (including the laxative effect) discussed here, you probably didn't get past the first page of discussions (about 3 days worth)

Please do avail yourself of our search feature (the wee globe on the upper right) and the post right at the top of this Forum giving search techniques and tips, and especially note the quicklink over on the right labeled "the truth about low carb sweeteners info", a GREAT resource about the joys (and hazards) of sweeteners.

You might also want to have a wander through the Newbies Questions, General LowCarbing and Introduce Yourself forums, you will be amazed at the amount of info being shared at all times.

Welcome.

Cool! A search feature. Never seen that before. You live and learn.

There are a lot of posts to wade through. Sometimes this place seems too busy.

Thanks!

And watch out for the sugar free candy!
