Default Have you noticed this?

I belong to a cooking magazine kitchen chat group. Several of the people who chat there, including me, formed an atkins group that posts everyday and we share information, tips, recipes and such. But the one thing that I always noticed in our discussions is the old mentality that has been branded in our brains from years of brainwashing that low fat and low calorie were the only way to lose weight. I can't seem to get through to them that atkins doesn't work that way. That you have to disregard what has been preached to you over the years/decades. But it is like talking to a wall. I even referred them back to the book to the exact chapters to read. They complain because they have stalled or whatever. I did get through to one person. But the others have their mind set and I/we can't reach them, yet. They enjoy the affects of atkins but they get discouraged and I hate to see them give up. Some have already. But I won't stop trying to help them, I won't give up.

Have you noticed this?
How do you reach these type of people?

Thanks for letting me share this
Thans for anything you can share with me to help this situation

Good question... I'm struggling with a couple of friends myself. I just keep doing what I'm doing, try not to nag, and hope they come around!

By the way, which corner of ND are YOU from? I've only "met" two others on here from North Dakota, but that's half the state population!!! lol

My husband and I live several miles west of Grand Forks out in the country, like getting a place out in the middle of no where is hard to find.

It will always help if you let them know your stats, if you have not already. So that way they can think about what they could have done for themselves too.

I just recovered from a long stall...my first real stall since I started low-carb (or re-started, actually...see my journal for the story behind that, if interested...)

And even though the scale wasn't moving for me during my stall, and it seemed that the tape measure moved only marginally at best, my clothes still became looser and looser. I think that sometimes, both the scale and the tape measure can be deceiving.

Moral of the story: You just have to stick with it! The simple fact is that if you LC, you will lose weight. It's just a matter of time (and perseverance.)

Hi, Gwyn: Thanks for posting this encouraging story. It feels as though stall is my middle name, but I have had somewhat the same experience with body fat changing even when the scale wasn't and my clothes getting looser. I'm glad to have some hope that the actual pounds will go too if I just hang in there.
