Exclamation Wisdom teeth and carbs!!

Hi!

I'm 22, and just had my wisdom teeth pulled out today. I'm having problems on what I can eat since I really can't chew anything. I don't want to eat shakes and jello (which is HIGH in carbs!) so any suggestions on what I can eat/drink for the next few days? Thanks

-Danny

I think the atkins shakes are 2 net carbs and the sugar-free jello is zero carbs. I think you would be okay eating them to get yourself through the tough part. You could always get some beef or chicken broth and add a little cream to it to make it more filling. Does it have to be liquid food or can you eat soft cooked veggies and stuff as well?

I had chicken broth when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I discovered a love for nitrous oxide. I think that is low carb but as soon as the Dr completed the extractions the gas wore off. My teeth flung out easily. I don't remember eating anything else.

Great question! On my last dentist visit I was referred to an oral surgeon to have two wisdom teeth removed. They are impacted and have to be cut out. I've been putting off going though. (I know I'm a BIG CHICKEN!) I hadn't really stopped to think about what I'd be able to eat once I have them removed. The suggestions above sound great - SF Jello, Shakes, and soup. I love the LC Broccoli and cheese soup and I bet it would go down smoothly. Also some very well cooked veggies.

Good luck! Hope your mouth feels better soon!

I just had 2 wisdom teeth pulled 4 weeks ago and 1 was impacted and I had to have my gums cut and then stitches.

I lived on cream of cauliflower soup that I made at home -- it's awesome and I make it now regularly!

Put about 3 cups of water with 1 tbsp of chicken bouillon (I used OXO) and fill the pot with 3 cups of cauliflower (works with broccoli, too). Boil that until the cauliflower is soft. In the mean time, put 1/2 c. of heavy whipping cream, 1 cup of grated cheddar and some black pepper in your blender. When the cauliflower is soft, pour the whole potful (broth and all) into the blender with the cream mixture and puree until smooth. Man, this stuff is good!! If you want to cool it down quicker (not supposed to have really hot or really cold food after the extractions), put an ice cube in your bowl or mug and stir until it's the right temperature.

Hope you heal quickly! I found that putting ice packs on my jaw 15 mins. on, 15 mins. off, worked wonders. I had no swelling at all and nobody could tell by looking at me that I'd just had them done!

Oh, and be prepared for some weight "gain". I actually went up 11 lbs in the first few days! I don't know if it was the pain meds, the sodium from the chicken broth or just my body's reaction to the trauma of the surgery, but I kinda freaked out! Don't worry -- it will go away if it happens to you!

Take care,
Nicole

Keto shakes have 1 carb and full of fiber. I add 1 frozen strawberry to the vanilla. I dont care for Atkins or Carb countdown. The fiber will keep you full and it is full of vitamins and minerals to help you heal faster. If not that then I take some carb countdown Homogonized milk dilute it a little put it in the blender with some frozen brocolli and make cream brocolli soup. Hope you feel better.
