Question Birth Control Pills and Anti Depressants?

Hello all.

I have lost 6lbs doing Atkins induction for the last 2 1/2 weeks, but lost it all in the first week. The last 10 days have been a yo-yo of +/-3lbs. I was frustrated!

So I have spent the last several days reading about two potential culprits that I have been taking for many years: Birth Control Pills and Anti-Depressants. It certainly isn't hard to find people who swear that these medications can slow down weight loss. As of yet, however, I haven't found much in the way of "hard evidence"

Does anyone have information
or personal experience

to share on either one of these? I am completely frustrated because the last time I did a lc diet i had exactly the same little taste of success followed by months of silent, maddening nothing

Well, the hard evidence came from the clinical trials. It's part of the list of possible side effects. There are perfectly sound explanations for it. With antidepressants, the change in brain chemistry often affects appetite and probably glucose management and digestion. With BC hormones, it can cause a whole whack of side effects that lead to weight gain: increase in appetite, decreased glucose tolerance, hypoglycemia, increased fat storage... probably others.

Check the General Health forum for more info. You can search for older threads, too. There's almost always a current discussion of antidepressants and/or hormones and weight loss.

Sorry! This was my first post on this site... I guess I posted my question in the wrong place. Will visit General Health as you suggested and search archives instead of re-posting the same old question.

Cheers!
