Default Metamucil and Fibercon

I've bought equate which is nearly identical to metamucil. On the label it said sugar free. When I got home I checked and it said it contained aspartme. I thought this is due to cheap knock off. I went back and checked metamucil sugar free version. Same thing. The regular version has straight sugar which I don't want either.

Can I substitute Fibercon pills for metamucil. Or even use those chewable Fiber tablets?

I used those metamucil capsules, that way I don't have to taste it at all. I take two per meal, irregardless of what I eat, it seems to keep things moving along very well.

So yes, you can substitute Fibercon pills, or any kind of fiber you want, as long as it doesn't cause you any ill effects.

Good luck,
wsgts

I had problems with constipation when I first started the Atkins diet. I tried Fibercon but noticed that it led me to retain quite a bit of water. I've never been a coffee drinker, but I happened to have a cup one morning and it worked like a charm. Now I have a cup of decaf coffee with cream and splenda every morning and I'm as regular as the train.

I use BeneFiber (a product made by Ex-Lax). It is sugarless and tasteless. It dissolves into any soft foods. So far, no problems. Good luck on your LC journey!!!

Along the same line--i just invested in SF Metamucil. It says 5g total carbs, 3g dietary fiber, 2g Soluble fiber. Does this mean 0 net carbs or 2? i.e. is the soluble fiber a "subset" of the dietary fiber? And if it is sugar free, what are the other carbs?? Thanks guys

Meaganm, I have a noname version of SF metamucil and it's 5g total carbs. In your case I would guess the fiber, both soluble and insoluble, have been presubtracted. Best way to figure it out is to do the reverse math.

1g of carbs = 4 calories

So, if your metamucil has 20 calories it's got roughly 5g of carbs in it
