Default strip question

This morning my test strip came out negative. I didn't know why since I hadn't eaten anything that would knock me out of ketosis. The weird thing is that a few hours later I tested again and it came out dark pink. I bought the strips a week ago so I know they're good.
If a test strip is negative does that mean that the body has used up all of it's excess ketones? I'm confused.

Sorry about my being so graphic but you can also vigorously pee the chemical right off the strip
