Default been in hospital!!!

Hi all, I was taken into hospital on wednesday night with awfull tummie pains and I mean awfull!!!!
At first it was thought to be my appendix, but that was quickly ruled out.A soon as my dear husband told them I was on the atkins diet, it all changed. You would think I was a lepper and it was catching.( but all the nurses were asking me on the sly did it work). My kidneys then were the target and my bowels. I have been consipated, but it was under control. The doctors acted as if it were self inflicted, and kept harping on how I was damageing myself. Then to-day I went for a scan and more test. They think it might have been a cyst on my overies, that had burst. There is no sign of any more thank god. The strange think is my blood pressur is a bit on the low side and not to take my medication for high blood pressur. OH how might that have happened the loss of a stone maybe.NO nothing can be put down to the atkins well nothing good anyway!"!!!
There was not much on the atkins list to eat in hospital, so now I am worried about putting any weight back on. I did eat a chocalate bar and some bread. I did not have potatoes, rice , or pasta. I ate fruit it help with my bowels.I think now I will try to eat slightly more fruit and some fiber. Anyway just to let you all know the reaction in hospital. The last thing the doctor said was "stay off that silly atkins diet, but well done on loseing the weight" DHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Fiona

Sorry to hear that you have been in hospital, but glad you are back with us and not put off by your experience.

Well, that is certainly good news on the blood pressure front. Excellent.

It is interesting how people react to the word Atkins. You can tell most people do not really know what it entails. His last comment about staying off Atkins, but congratulating you on the weight loss is rather two faced.

Hope you do not get a recurrance. Otherwise you might be on Kilroy like Claire Sweeney saying that her kidney infection was down to Atkins.

Don't worry about the high carb foods you have eaten. A few days back eating normally will see you back on the losing track. Do introduce some fruit, but not too much as it is pure sugar. If you don't eat the fruit as part of a meal then eat it with protein or fat to slow the digestion down.

Have a good weekend.

Fiona, so sorry to hear you've been ill and had such a nasty experience with the medical Powers-that-Be.

Hope you feel better soon. I'm sure a low-carb regimine is half of the solution not the problem

Hi Fiona: hope that your recovery continues and you feel well. How amazing that you have lowered your blood pressure already and the meds are no longer necessary.

I guess the medical personnel feel required to bash Atkins & LCing in general, but maybe your lowered BP & weight loss has given them something to think about. Maybe they won't be so ready to condemn when the next LCer turns up.

Daft isn't it. If you have cysts on your ovaries you have to eat low carb anyway!! Duh!!

I'm glad you're home and better though!

Default Poor you

So sorry to hear about your hospital experience - hope you are fully recovered soon. I did laugh about the doctor's comment - so ridiculous. The problem is for doctor's that they truly think they know best about everything and are blind to their prejudices. Now I am getting off my soapbox.

I am getting weary of defending Atkins - I mentioned it to someone at work (only cause I had to explain declining their offer of homemade brownies) and had to deal with their scepticism and doubts. Unfortunately my weightloss is not spectacular so can't wow people - but in time the proof of the pudding will be in a smaller me

Hi Fiona

So sorry to hear you had all that to go through. Hope you're feeling much better now.

From what Atkins says about poly-cystic ovaries you kind of have to wonder if what actually happened was the change in diet has finally dispersed them?!

Had far too much experience of doctors (and let's not get me started on "specialists"! ) with the ME to be surprised by the rough ride you got. Sad that the folk who are paid (by your taxes, which is often worth reminding them when they give you a hard time!) to help you are often the ones who make things ten times worse...

Hi Fiona,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been in hospital and I hope you are feeling better soon.

The doctor's comments sound typical of thos in the press and media recently. My sis-in-law is a radiographer and is doing Atkins. Loads of the girls she works with are on it too.

I'm sure your chocolate bar won't have done you any harm.
