Default Russell Stover's Sugar Free Candy

Please help me figure out the net carbs on these products:

Peanut Butter Cups
Serving Size: 4 cups

Calories: 200
Total Fat: 13
Sat Fat: 6
Chol: 0
Sodium: 140
Total Carb: 17
Fiber: 2
Maltitol: 14
Protein: 5

Does this mean that it has 1 or 3 net carbs?

Truffles
Serving Size: 4 truffles

Calories: 160
Total Fat: 11
Sat Fat: 7
Chol: 5
Sodium: 35
Carbs: 22
Fiber: 1
Sugar Alchohol: 20
Protein: 2

Does this mean it has 1 or 2 net carbs?

I'm confused as to whether you subtract fiber along with the sugar alcohols.

Thanks!

Both candies have 1 net carb...you do subtract the fiber.

Yup! They would both be 1 net gram of carbs, you are supposed to subtract the fiber from the total carbs because it doesn't digest. The sugar alcohols, like malitol, however, have been known to create stalls in some, as well as... uhm... how to put this delicately... hmm... problems that make you run for the bathroom? lol And then some, can handle them totally fine. =) I guess what I'm trying to get at, is... just because they will equal out to being only 1 gram of carbs, I wouldn't eat 10 of them in a row... lol Hope this helps! =)

Moonshea =)

I don't understand guys? The first one says 17 grams of carbs, and only 1 gram of fiber. Does that not mean they have 16 grams of carbs? How are you getting 1 net gram of carbs. Sorry for my ignorance.. I'm new to this way of eating =)

Hordsak,

The first one has maltitol, which is a sugar alcohol. When configuring the net carbs on a food you subtract both the sugar alcohol and fiber from the total carbs.
