Question Confused about flaxseed oil

Help. I've been doing some reading and have ended up confused. Topic is flaxseed oil. The Eades say to avoid it, because of ALA and how it blocks the release of Delta 6 desaturase . I don't eat fish (wish I did, but I just cant.. believe me I've tried) and flax seemed like a great way to get my 'bad eicosanoids' under control. Barry Sears shares this opinion of flax oil, and yet it seems that a lot of people here use it daily? What does Atkins say? (Sorry haven't read him, YET). I know i'd have to take a huge amount of Omega 3 in pill formula if i went that route... Not sure what I should be doing.

Default hi Nat

Yes, when the Eades published the original Protein Power in 1996, they advised against flax oil in preference to fish oil. However, they have recanted, and in their most recent book, Protein Power Lifeplan, pub. 2000, they stated, well gosh, maybe flax isn't so bad after all, and gosh, we even use it ourselves ..

For the best, and most up-to-date information on flax seed, flax oil and nutrition, the Flax Council of Canada website can't be beat... Their homepage can be found at http://www.flaxcouncil.ca/index.html

hope this is helpful

Default Thx

Thanks, Doreen. I was quite confused. After some more research and a look at those links I think I'll stick with the Flax and suplement with some Evening Oil of Primrose or Borage.
