Default Question about net carbs

Hello everybody!! I am new to this forum and have a question about net carbs. Can somebody explain to me how to read the product labels??? I get confused when I see a package say, for instance, 4 net carbs, or 0 sugar carbs, 17 sugar alcohols, etc. What is ok to eat on the Atkins?? I'm not sure if this has been posted before, if so, could you please point me in the right direction??? The only carbs I eat during the day is my Carbsmart Icecream at night which has 4 net carbs per 1/2 cup. Is this ok to have? I am not in induction anymore. I am just SO confused.

PLEASE HELP.

Net carbs

Carbs minus fiber = net carbs

Carbs minus sugar alcohol = net carbs*

*but for some, sugar alcohols despite you can take them off the full carbs DO affect them negatively.

Sunnybear, its very logical if you think about it. You count every carb that your body can process and will effect your insulin levels (blood sugar levels). Fiber is not processed by the body. It is consumed and promply eliminated. You can subract it from the carb count because it isn't absorbed by the body and therefore has no impact on your weight or your blood sugar. Supposedly sugar alcohols are like that too BUT as Yvonne mentions, many people do find that sugar alcohols effect their weight loss. If you are eating your icecream and you are still losing, then you are one of the lucky people who are not effected by the sugar alcohols so go ahead and eat your icecream and subtract the sugar alcohols as well as the fiber to get your net carb count. If you ever find yourself stalled in weight loss, try cutting out the sugar alcohols and see if it helps. I hope this helps.

A word of caution about the CarbSmart ice cream-it has corn syrup in it.
